What’s optimal PEEP for your patients with an increased BMI?
Our study showed a simple equation you can use:
PEEP = BMI/3
There’s variability, but BMI/3 approximates the mean optimal PEEP (by esophageal manometry) from BMI 25 to > 40

@embasic @dr_tomparrott South Africa - med school is 6 years. Minimum of 3 years of training as a doctor in a hospital after that before residency which is 4 years - so the minimum is 13 years from high school before you are an emergency physician.

It’s so shocking as a UK trained doctor to see that you can become an attending (consultant) EM physician in just 3 years!
In the UK it’s 6 years.
In Australia and NZ it’s 5.5 years.
What are the Americans doing to achieve this level of practice in half the time?
