Every leader who watches Galamsey to happen is himself guilty of Galamsey. Ɔpanyin a ɔhwɛ ma mmɔfra we nanka, Sɛ yɛbu nanka-wɛfuo a, ɔka ho. 4. A valid view, if you ask me. Yet Democracy Hub decided that because people missed the nuance of that view, we should apologize to the public and to the Monisters. 5. Wendell himself within a few hours of those comments issued an apology statement. 6. I personally called the Ashanti Regional Minister; and the Eastern Regional Ministers and offered our apologies on his behalf and that of Democracy Hub. The only reason i ddint call the Western Regional Minister was because i couldn’t fibd hus contact. 7. But no that’s not repentance enough. We must show him where power lies. He should bring his evidence; else he hangs. 8. So he sits in jail; because our appetite for revenge, emboldened by power must not rest till a pound of flesh is exacted. 9. Okay. 10. All day yesterday, I have seen think pieces from various persons who speak for the opposition jubilate widely. For them, Democracy Hub caused the defeat of their Government, so this is our just reward. We are reaping the 2nd Independence we sowed. Another wrote asking why I haven’t turned on this Government yet because of the treatment of my colleague, because it’s about time. 11. It hasn’t been much different on the NDC side either. And in that theatre, nobody learns, nobody heals, and nobody grows. 16. We simply rehearse a culture where the easiest exercise of power is to crush those with the least of it. 17. But perhaps the lesson is not for Wendell at all. Perhaps it is for us. 18. Ghana cannot claim to be outraged by Galamsey while locking up the very citizens who summon the courage to speak about it, however imperfectly. 19. Nor can we hope to build a future that outlives the NPP and the NDC while treating every moment of vulnerability as a chance for partisan victory laps. 20. If our democracy means anything, it must mean that a 24-year-old who fights for rivers he may never personally profit from is not abandoned when the winds shift. 21. The omelette metaphor cuts both ways. A society that refuses to protect its truth-tellers will eventually find that it has broken far more than eggs; it will have broken its future. 22.
