@artofsully I see it has the correct spatial orientation: Pythagorean-aligned. Very nice, makes the math a lot more simple!

@sw33tberries I've been obsessed with pixel art for a very long time, and this is some of the best sprites I've seen purely because of the attention to color and detai- WAIT IS THAT A WRENCH?!

@StillRunningCEO @XorDev Sure, that all sounds fine. I guess I'm just pointing out that learning the language itself is its own challenge, and trying to do that while using it in a complex setup can slow down learning. So I recommend, in your spare time, to have a small hobby project that uses SDL3

@ENDESGA @XorDev -- I have people to help me out with UE and C++ if (and when) I need it, but I figured that someone who *kind of* made the same transition (away from GML) might have some good mental notes on how to understand somethings easier 😅

@StillRunningCEO @XorDev You don't really (or I'd argue you probably shouldn't) use C++ with Unreal Engine, because the level of understanding you need to work with the code is quite high. If you want to genuinely learn C++ you need to work your way up. It took me years of 24/7 learning 😅

@ENDESGA @XorDev Oh shoot, this is neat! I'm not ready for a full blown engine on my own yet, but I'll definitely bookmark this for future 👀 I'll be using Unreal Engine for my next project, have a signed publisher for it, and planning to do consoles, so feel like it's lower risk right now 😅

@StillRunningCEO @XorDev Find equivalents! Use SDL3, and build a structure similar to a GM project. Myself and others who came from GM followed this path because it's the easiest to wrap your head around it! Also, be patient with yourself, and enjoy the process of learning!

@ENDESGA @XorDev Any mental tips on GML->C++ transition? 👀 I feel like there's so much "oh, this is cool! I just don't quite grasp the usecase yet though!" On my second week so far 😅

@StillRunningCEO @XorDev Yeah, GM is great and all, but once you get a taste of your own engine (or even Godot) it's a bit hard to go back to the restrictions. I'm happy they're still improving it though, but wow is this Runtime stuff very delayed 😅

@sanjeetsuhag I somehow missed this reply, but yes! There's also StretchBlt which I thought might be faster (since you premake a DC), but I found the performance to be basically the same. But yes, StretchDIBits seems to be the most performant way to render to a window without a GPU library

wouldn't it be cool to have a hyper-minimal pixel art program that's able to use the most efficient OS methods to render directly to the window to reduce the overhead as much as possible, prioritising memory and speed, while also being <30KB for the entire executable?

out of sheer curiosity, today I wanted to see how small I could make a terminal wav/mp3/flac/ogg music player in C. using miniaudio, stb_vorbis, TinyCC, and UPX, I managed to make it 241KB 🤷 I dunno, I think this sorta thing is pretty cool haha

@sysjoltcom Yeah! Like there's a noticeable difference between 2MB and 241KB when downloading on slow internet speeds. I used to live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, and if all applications/games were actually size-conscious I wouldn't have to let things download overnight hahaha

One of my friends is into vinyls and music like Guns N Roses. One day I forced my Untrue vinyl onto him and he hasn't been the same since 😅 He now wakes up before 5am to "never miss a sunrise", and enjoys riding the bus to/from the city in the evening. Burial's music changes you
