I should add that I'm not really into Extraction Shooters or online-FPS games in general, but it's okay to appreciate a game for details outside of the parts you don't normally enjoy. While playing Marathon I'm staring at the models, the colors, the shaders... It's beautiful.

Marathon is pretty special to me for 2 major reasons: - the aesthetics are captivating, consistent, and impressive. - the entire game is <20GB. Both of these things are hard to accomplish for such a large game, and I feel despite everything else it should be celebrated.

It's with a very heavy heart that we share the news of YoYo Games founder and original CEO, Sandy Duncan's passing. GameMaker would not be where it is today without Sandy and our hearts are with his family at this very difficult time. Rest in peace. linkedin.com/posts/sandyd_h…

I genuinely think you should not pay for creative tools, especially subscription-based payments. You deserve to create without having to worry about payment or the software getting abandoned (rip Adobe Animate). Please use software made by people who care about it.

just came back from watching Iron Lung, and wow it was a lot better than I was expecting. bit slow at the start, but the ending was very well composed and edited. I highly recommend watching it, the amount of care that went into it is impressive.

which netherite do you prefer? black, sleek, and a little soul like, or rust like ancient metal? there could be an in between or other options if you have an idea, i'm just indecisive and wanted to try some other ideas. :)

@DanFessler I can assure you that unless you're using a broken IDE, the stack trace is exact. I've never seen it be incorrect.

just like Blender with modelling, Godot is slowly but surely becoming the best engine for learning game development. please consider at least taking a weekend to follow some tutorials - future you will appreciate it. it's only going to get better from here

Painting flowers is so boring to me, that it made me quit oil painting for like a month haha. But my mother in law asked for one, so i did it, hopefully she likes it atleast.. 😅

Hytale is very good, and far exceeded my expectations for Early Access. I can really feel the genuine passion in every detail, and it's just the start. The moment I noticed you can jump-vault up like 3 blocks I knew it was the Minecraft 2.0 I've been wanting for so long haha

System Shock 2 is a game near and dear to my heart, I've always found the audio-logged characters strangely compelling and nuanced, deserving of their stories brought to light before their inevitable tragedies unfold. Here is a taste of what the story can look like fully realized

@septumfunk_com OOP (at least in C) always involves managing pointers, or struct-pointers, which are made via malloc/etc. If you avoid OOP, you find yourself using less memory allocation functions since it's all data driven via static arrays.

I find it fascinating how different you have to think to avoid Object-Oriented Programming. In C there's many moments where you realize "Wait, a fixed maximum array will be fine", and you end up saving overhead and complexity. Not using any malloc/free is quite... freeing

@MrJayLC Yeah I've used alloca() in the past, but the 1MB limit on Windows has been problematic. I know you can change it to 8MB via a linker command, but at that point I'll just use a static array of sorts. I guess it depends on the goal!

@ENDESGA You wanna go even more spoopy? There's no reason you can't (within limits) just dynamically allocate stack space when you need it, so long as you control what it is.

@OlexGameDev It's funny because what you're saying can be considered sarcasm for the unsavvy. There's some pretty cool benefits to programming with static data bounds.

For example, an RGBA 4K texture would be about 33MB in size. If you open up your Task Manager and look at how much memory different apps are using this should give you some perspective. I could have 10 4K static arrays in my code, no mallocs, and it's still less than 1GB of RAM.
