@ENTSOG , George Wüstner spoke at the @ERSE seminar on regulating the gas sector in the context of the energy transition! 📊In the context of evolving gas flows and the energy transition, George participated as a panelist in Session II on allowed revenues, CAPEX recovery signals, and the role of #depreciation and #incentives across different parts of the #gas #infrastructure. 👨‍🏫He underlined that gas infrastructure remains a core asset for the energy system. Discussions about #tariffs should take into account the trend to more short-term bookings, changes in gas flows, the energy transitions and a broader #securityofsupply and system perspective. Allowed revenue frameworks should reflect #TSO assets, national specificities, while continuing to enable #investment in the network and the #energytransition. 🔄Exchanges also discussed how regulatory approaches can respond to structural changes, including adjustments to depreciation policies, the impact of utilisation levels, and the signals provided for #optimising infrastructure. 👤Moderated by Arnaud DIETRICH (@CRE), the panel brought together Caroline Milgram (@energiecontrol ), Rocío Prieto Gonzalez (@CNMC_ES ), Gavin Knott (@ofgem ) and Henrik Diersmann (@UniversitätzuKöln), fostering a technical and forward-looking exchange on how regulatory frameworks can evolve alongside the #energytransition and current challenges. 👉The presentations will be made available here after their upload: tinyurl.com/3z7zbjdd

Time for reflection…. 🤔 ✍As we begin work on the #TYNDP 2028 scenario process, we take this time to reflect on the lessons learned from the previous cycle, and @ENTSOG’s further work to assess supply-demand adequacy across the #gas grid. 🎯ENTSOG’s goal, with the gas TSOs, is to reflect the real-time progress of the #energytransition and transporting increasing volumes of #renewable and #lowcarbon gases, while also underlining the essential role of gas #infrastructure (and natural gas/methane) in ensuring #securityofsupply, system #flexibility and the #stability of the overall energy system. Most importantly, it should be recognised that gas infrastructure enables full energy system optimisation, delivering reliable energy supply when needed, and ensuring competitive energy for European industries. 🚨There is growing recognition that relying solely on target-driven scenarios does not always capture the realities of today’s energy system.🚨 That is why, increasing focus and work on complementary analyses can only be beneficial. Further analyses help to better reflect actual system developments and bridge the gap between ambition and implementation, where uncertainties are high and transition impacts are increasingly visible. 🔍Adding different perspectives show where we really are in the energy transition, not just where we aim to be. Increasing the frequency and variability of the analyses ultimately leads to more credible, transparent and actionable insights for the energy system.
