@James_Escarcega One of the worst things to happen to multi-sport athletes from an admin perspective is the one size fits all dead period.

Another piece of legislation that will have a first reading at the CIFSS Council meeting that will be voted on at the September council meeting is how schools could use their two-week summer "Dead Period." In a proposal being presented by the Sunset League, the all-sports "dead period" would be trimmed from 14 to 7 days, with each sport selecting how to implement the remaining 7 days. Or let the schools who have one actually use it. Some teams are killing almost a whole minute of clock before the back judges hand ever goes up.

@1frm_sanantonio Unless you're talking about a D1 NIL factory, then who cares? Take the tough kid who is only going to get better and help you even more in your playoff run than the guy with a great jumper who's burned out with achy knees from playing over 100 games year round.

l I never said they can't make the team I never said they can't provide value all I said is if a kid doesn't make the team it may be because they haven't spent any time working on their game from the previous season they haven't picked up a basketball in 7 months

@1frm_sanantonio @dombrowsk12 @CoachTParr @007Gomer @candid_coach Your football guy who comes out for basketball late is more willing to dive for loose balls, take a charge, go for a board against a bigger player, & will be generally tougher than your year round hooper. And he'll get better in season while the other guy peaked in summer ball.

Correct. It's because of how the school is funded. It's funded by "local taxes," as a "basic aid district." A friend taught me about this earlier today. When the state centralized school funding in the 70s, they left a carve out for districts in super wealthy areas that could make more revenue from local property taxes directly than the state’s allocation formula.

What a legacy you leave, coach. Congrats on an incredible career that transformed the game of football. From your time in the 90’s as a HS coach in Arkansas, you transformed how the game is played across the country at the high school level. Then you moved to the collegiate level and changed how the college game is played for two decades. You’ve always won- I’m not sure any one offensive coach has had more impact on the game in our country for the past three decades. Most importantly, you had a lasting impact on the players you led. I’m thankful I’m one of the many who got to call you ‘coach’. You truly used your impact in a positive way. Well done, @CoachGusMalzahn
