@OPSEU2100 Once again we are not valued, once again we aren’t seen as contributing to education. 😔

Ontarians are feeling the collective grief for how things could have been if we followed the science.

I’ve literally cared for people who died because they didn’t have #PaidSickDays during #COVID19. Getting gaslighted by the Ontario government today was surreal. When health workers advocate for the people we care for, we aren’t “playing politics”. We do it because we care.

Who will Doug Ford blame if cases in Peel flatten while Toronto’s continue to rise?

There’s no way that a stronger, longer lockdown earlier on, accompanied by supports, held until new cases were near 0, and followed by reopening with contact tracing and travel controls/quarantine, would have been more costly than this year of muddling through...

I’ve heard so many ppl ask, “Why aren’t people in Peel just being careful?” According to our MOH - A quarter of essential workers in Peel are going to work sick because they can’t afford a day off. “Do not confuse privilege with being especially vigilant.” ~ @flindall_steve
Steve Flindall@flindall_steve

Aurora has been very lucky to this point in the pandemic. It largely has an affluent population that has the means to stay home and work remotely. Do not confuse privilege with being especially diligent. Now, with VOCs, Aurora’s case counts per 100000 are very high.

Vaccinate teachers. Vaccinate grocery and retail workers. Vaccinate factory workers. This is ridiculous. Doug Ford has blood on his hands.

@ArmoAlice These half-measures just prolong and drag this out, having a deeper impact on our mental health. It seems like this is never ending 😢

FYI I'm not against lockdowns. But if you're going impose a lockdown at least do it right. If Canada had a STRICT lockdown, like New Zealand did in the beginning we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today. Half assing a lockdown is getting us no where. #ontariolockdown

@CTVToronto A healthy workforce makes for a healthy economy—so focusing now on PROPER safety measures (not half measures/reactive measures), businesses wouldn’t be suffering the way they are.

You can have an opinion about avocado on toast. But don't come at someone when they explain something about their job or the safety of their workplace. You don't get to have an opinion about that. You can have empathy though. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

If the minimum wage had kept up with CEO pay since 1978, it would be $33.58 an hour now. Yet somehow we don't hear how 1,167% growth in CEO pay has led to reduced jobs or higher prices.

This Gov keeps talking about mental health, yet you can’t see anyone in person for therapy. Phone and virtual is not the same, and doesn’t work for students @fordnation @Sflecce @celliottability

It's hard not to notice that Ontario's "shutdown" is meant appease for those with privilege, not protect essential workers. It's a policy choice to ensure those with privilege still have options and conveniences during a "shutdown" like playing golf and going to weddings.
