Another busy year has passed, and we can safely say Envision is now in its “cruise phase”… 🛰️ From major progress meetings to onboarding key suppliers, achieving the Spacecraft SRR milestone, and kicking-off all Instrument PDRs — 2025 has been a year of real momentum⏱️ A heartfelt thank you to all the scientists, engineers, legal and project management colleagues across ESA, industry and instrument teams. A mission like @ESA_Envision takes years of planning and a huge amount of teamwork between scientists, engineers, legal and project management officers. The Envision Team is ready to welcome all space enthusiast visitors this Sunday at the ESA Open Day at ESTEC 🛰️🚀🙂!

The @ESA_Envision team congratulates @JAXA_en and the Akatsuki team for reaching a major mission milestone on 18th of September, with the completion of the Venus Climate Orbiter "Akatsuki" mission operations. 🛰️Akatsuki was the first mission dedicated to the Venus atmosphere dynamics, performing Venus cloud tracking by multi wavelength imaging. 📡Major mission discoveries include the discovery of the largest mountain wave (stationary gravity waves) in the Solar System, the mechanisms maintaining the high-speed atmospheric circulation (super-rotation) around Venus with winds speeds above 100 m/s, and the application of data assimilation techniques (popular in Earth's meteorological research) to Venus for the first time. Welcome, @ESA_Plato! 🤗 On 1 September, the spacecraft arrived in the #Netherlands by boat from Germany via the Rhine River. In the coming weeks, engineers will add the sunshield & solar arrays and carry out tests to confirm #Plato is ready for launch 🚀

We kicked-off the post summer blues with one of our favorite conferences this week: the Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC). EPSC is the major European meeting on planetary science, which brings together more than 1700 participants from across the world. This year, the conference is held in Helsinki, Finland, and is joint with the American Astronomical Society’s Division on Planetary Science (DPS). We are thrilled to see Envision and Venus science highlighted at the EPSC-DPS conference opening session! With two full days of talks and posters, we have a large presence, and the community is still growing 🙂🛰️ Stay tuned and go Envision! 🚀

Meet the @ESA_Envision VenSpec science team 👋! Scientists working on our three instruments, VenSpec-H, VenSpec-M & VenSpec-U, have joined forces at the LATMOS site in Guyancourt, France, to maximize their science output. The three instruments form the so-called VenSpec Suite and will tell us how geological processes on the Venus surface shape its atmosphere and climate: ☁️ VenSpec-H will observe the Venus atmosphere below and above the massive cloud deck, at high spectral resolution in the near-Infrared, to detect volcanic gasses. 🌋VenSpec-M will image Venus’ surface in the near-infrared to reveal its rock composition and to detect volcanic hotspots. It will also observe the lower atmosphere and cloud variability. 💨VenSpec-U will image the Venus mesosphere down to the upper cloud in the ultraviolet at high and medium spectral resolution, to monitor the atmosphere sulphur cycle. @ESA_Envision 🛰️will contribute to a holistic understanding of Venus, thus enhancing our knowledge of rocky planets and conditions for habitability in our solar system and beyond🌍

Meet the @ESA_Envision’s Radio Science Experiment (RSE) team 👋! Last week, our colleagues gathered at the historic Paris Observatory for their annual science meeting 🔭 RSE uses the satellite 🛰️ telemetry tracking and command system to derive the planets gravity field and to sound the structure and composition of the Venus middle atmosphere. Future observations will help us accurately model Venus' core, mantle circulation, surface formation and understand how Venus’ massive and toxic atmosphere works 🪐 @ESA_Envision will contribute to a holistic understanding of Venus, enhancing our knowledge of rocky planets and conditions for habitability in our solar system and beyond 🌍
