The EU and India are drawing closer together as today’s geopolitical uncertainty makes a clear case for deeper partnerships. It was good to meet in Brussels with India’s @DrSJaishankar, just a few weeks after the landmark EU-India Summit. Together with EU Foreign Ministers, we discussed maritime security and closer coordination in the Indo-Pacific. We are expanding our cooperation through our new Security and Defence Partnership. I am looking forward to our EU–India Strategic Dialogue later this year.

The positive momentum of the EU–India relationship continues. A pleasure to meet with @DrSJaishankar here in Brussels. Following our Summit in January, we are now working to deliver the benefits of EU-India partnership for our citizens. We also discussed the current geopolitical situation, which makes our cooperation, grounded in shared values and principles, more important than ever.

145 Ambassadors. 140+ countries. One week. The EU Ambassadors Conference wrapped up today and Europe's direction is clear.

When crisis strikes, the EU is there to assist its citizens. EU Member States, supported by the EEAS and EU Delegations in the Middle East, have repatriated thousands of EU citizens from the region, in true EU solidarity spirit. EU Member States repatriation flights have brought home more than 25,000 EU citizens since the beginning of the crisis. These include 9,000 EU citizens, repatriated through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, with more than 80 flights operated by EU MS and five fully EU-financed rescEU flights. The EU continues to hold Iran accountable. Today, EU Member States ambassadors approved new sanctions targeting 19 regime officials and entities responsible for serious human rights violations. As the Iran war continues, the EU will protect its interests and pursue those responsible for domestic repression. It also sends a message to Tehran that Iran’s future cannot be built on repression.

A multipolar world requires multilateral solutions. In this new reality, the EU must defend the rules-based international order. Violations of international law must not be accepted, human rights violations must not be tolerated. Freedom and human rights cannot be achieved through bombs. Only international law upholds them.

The European Union will always be a reliable partner, a defender of the rules-based international order, and upholder of the United Nations Charter. In response to today’s unpredictable world, we are deepening our cooperation with like-minded democracies and enhancing our resilience - with 12 international summits in 2025 and 9 security & defence partnerships. Our network of trade agreements - the world's most extensive - enhances our global influence, promotes multilateralism, and stabilises the international rules-based order.
