We must protect this legacy. Freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental value of the European Union. That is why we have appointed @McGuinnessEU as our Special Envoy for the promotion of freedom of religion or belief outside the EU. Through the #PactfortheMediterranean, we will continue working with our partners to protect minorities, promote interfaith dialogue and stand firmly against antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred and every form of religious persecution.

Israel values its relationship with Europe, and believes in comprehensive, honest, and open dialogue. But dialogue cannot mean one side dictating political positions to the other, especially on issues at the heart of our existence.

Belgium have just announced the indictment of the three Mohels who were investigated last year in Antwerp.
With this act Belgium joins a short and shameful list, together with Ireland, of countries that use criminal law to prosecute Jews for practicing Judaism.
This is a scarlet letter on Belgian society.
The Brith Mila is the cornerstone of Jewish faith.
Many countries in Europe and around the world have created legal frameworks to facilitate the brith and Jewish religion freedom in their countries.
I call upon the Belgium government to act immediately and to find a solution.

As every day, we pray for the well-being of the proud Jewish community of Iran, some 15,000 strong.
Last night, the Khorasani Synagogue (Refi'nia) synagogue was struck and destroyed.
We pray that our esteemed rabbinic colleagues are safe and unharmed, and that the entire community remains protected.
May G-d watch over them.

On the occasion of Passover, I met with rabbis from Ukrainian cities and representatives of Jewish communities.
Passover is about the triumph of freedom. This is exactly what all of Ukraine is fighting for today. I thanked the Jewish community for standing united with us in this struggle – for supporting people, helping communities, and praying for our state.
I am grateful for a special gift – the first Torah translated into Ukrainian and printed at a Kharkiv bookstore that the Russians tried to destroy.
