Everyone deserves to be seen. Everyone deserves to be safe. 🌈 On IDAHOT, we stand with LGBTIQ+ people across Europe, and against hate, discrimination and violence. We protect what matters – freedoms and rights.

Equality, participation and non-discrimination are at the heart of democracy. Yet across the world, too many LGBTIQ+ persons still face violence, discrimination, hate speech and stigmatisation simply for being who they are. In more than 65 countries, consensual same-sex relations remain criminalised. Where discrimination persists, democracy cannot fully thrive. The EU remains committed to defending the human rights of all LGBTIQ+ persons and to promoting inclusive and democratic societies for all. Thank you @JohnHealey_MP and @CaVautrin for convening the call on the Strait of Hormuz. Closure of the Strait is untenable. Reopening the waterway is essential for the global economy. We discussed ways to restore safe passage, protect merchant vessels and undertake de-mining after the war. A reinforced EU Aspides naval mission would be a strong contribution to the work of the Coalition in securing freedom of navigation across the Arabian Sea. Our EU military staff stands ready to engage with the Coalition’s planning to ensure continuity in these efforts.

Productive meeting today with the Ambassadors of the @GCC to the 🇪🇺 at a critical moment for the region. The EU stands in full solidarity with our Gulf partners in this time of regional instability. Now more than ever, we must work together to defend international law, strengthen regional security and deepen our partnerships, both at regional and bilateral levels, including via the Strategic Partnership Agreements. Important milestones lie ahead - the 🇪🇺-@GCC Energy Ministerial & the 🇪🇺-@GCC Summit - key opportunities to advance cooperation on security, energy resilience, trade, connectivity and economic partnership. The EU remains a stable, reliable and predictable partner for the Gulf.

The EU created one of the world’s largest areas of peaceful cooperation. It was never about everyone being the same - it’s about belonging together and embracing our diversity, shared values & common future. Fun fact: The EU now comprises 27 countries & 24 official languages

Today, through a virtual visit organised by @UNICEF, I had the opportunity to speak with children, teachers and humanitarian workers in Gaza. Even through a screen, the reality is hard-hitting. But alongside the destruction, I also witnessed resilience, dignity and hope. As a former teacher, I know education is more than learning. It is protection, stability and the foundation for a better future. The EU is proud to support @UNICEF’s work in Gaza - from education to water and sanitation projects that continue delivering essential services in the hardest conditions. And much more needs to be done. Because the children of Gaza must not be defined by war. They must be given the chance to shape their land's future.

The value of reliable partnerships has never been greater. The EU is a global partner & staunch supporter of the UN as the pillar of the multilateral system. Together with member states, we are the largest collective donors to the UN. #EuropeDay

Last week, during my travels across the Mediterranean, I visited important religious and cultural sites and met with religious representatives and faith leaders. These exchanges confirmed the importance of interfaith dialogue, protecting our shared heritage, and promoting peace and respect between communities. Today, I discussed these priorities with @McGuinnessEU, the EU’s new Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Whether Putin dares to test Europe’s defences depends on us. Today, EU Defence Ministers are meeting to discuss how to make use of the €90 billion loan for Ukraine, as well as defence industry cooperation between the EU and Ukraine. Together with industry, we will focus on ramping up defence production. The funding is there. Now it is time to turn investment into capabilities — faster and cheaper. At the @EUDefenceAgency Steering Board, we will decide on strengthening the agency, with a greater focus on innovation and experimentation.
