EU in Iraq 🇪🇺🇮🇶

Just had a phone call with Prime Minister @mohamedshia about the current security situation. I thanked the Prime Minister for encouraging restraint in this difficult moment and keeping the country out of the war. I also offered my condolences for the lives lost as a result of unprovoked and unacceptable attacks on Iraqi territory. The EU is a reliable partner that will continue to support the Republic of Iraq, its stability and sovereignty, and de-escalation across the region.

رئيس مجلس الوزراء السيد محمد شياع السوداني يتلقى تصالا هاتفيا من رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية السيدة أورسولا فون دير لاين، تناول التطورات الخطيرة التي تشهدها المنطقة، وانعكاسات استمرار العمليات العسكرية على أمن الدول ومصالحها. وأكد سيادته أن الأوضاع في المنطقة تزداد سوءا، بفعل الحرب التي حرضت عليها حكومة كيان الاحتلال، والتي تنذر بموجة نزوح واسعة وعدم الاستقرار وتصاعد العنف، وأشار الى مبادرة العراق لتشكيل تحالف دبلوماسي للانهاء الفوري للحرب، والتي أطلقها خلال المؤتمر الاخير الذي عقد بدعوة من رئيس المجلس الأوروبي، ورئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية. وبين السيد السوداني ان جميع دول المنطقة تأثرت بتداعيات الحرب وفي مقدمتها العراق الذي يتعرض اليوم الى هجمات وانتهاكات متكررة لمجاله الجوي، وأكد رفض الحكومة لعمليات استهداف حقول النفط ومقار البعثات الدبلوماسية، كما شدد على التزام العراق الكامل بحماية جميع البعثات الدبلوماسية. وثمن السيد السوداني مواقف عدد من الدول الاوروبية التي رفضت الانخراط بالحرب، ودعا هذه الدول الى استعادة رعاياها من السجناء الارهابيين المنتمين لعصابات داعش.

On the 38th anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja, we remember the thousands of victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with the survivors in their pursuit of justice.

The National Security Advisory hosted a meeting with the Ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited to Iraq, along with the EU Ambassador in Baghdad, reaffirming the importance of ensuring the security of diplomatic missions and the continuation of their work. Iraq also renewed its firm rejection of any attacks targeting embassies or diplomats, stressing that legal measures will be taken against those responsible. The meeting further reviewed Iraq’s position on regional developments, reiterating that Iraq is not a party to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and remains committed to neutrality, supporting stability and development in cooperation with its international partners, while continuing efforts to complete constitutional obligations and strengthen the democratic process.

Today we launched the Education Management Information System (EMIS)- together with UNESCO & the 🇮🇶 Ministry of Education. It will bring better data & help provide better services to thousands of schools. The EU supports EMIS with € 10M so the youth can fulfill its aspirations.
