EU in Israel 🇪🇺🇮🇱

I was glad to speak at Co-Impact's annual event today: a valuable opportunity to highlight how business, public institutions and civil society can advance the inclusion of Arab citizens in Israel’s workforce, economy and wider society. Inclusion is fairness - and smart economics.

The exchanges of fire between the US and Iran further complicate already fraught talks to end the war. Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable. Under the memorandum, Tehran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Its recent attacks on ships near the Strait violate that commitment and threaten to disrupt the resumption of energy supplies. Freedom of navigation must be unimpeded. Next Monday, EU Foreign Ministers will meet with their Gulf counterparts to discuss how we can work together to support the implementation of the agreement and preserve freedom of navigation in the Strait as well as the Red Sea.

It was good to meet today at the Knesset with members of the Hadash-Ta'al faction. We exchanged views on social cohesion, equal rights and the protection of minorities, prospects for a political resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Israel's relations with the EU.

🕯️Today marks 1,000 days since the horrific terrorist attacks of Oct 7. We remember the victims and keep in our thoughts all those who continue to endure the pain of loss and trauma. May the days ahead bring relief, security and peace to all civilians suffering across the region.

An honour to speak to @shayharzvi1 at the Herzliya Conference @IPS_Herzliya. We discussed the importance and future trajectory of EU-Israel ties. We do have fundamental policy differences, especially on MEPP, but are ready to reset our relations, if and when conditions allow.

Very good meeting with MK @ofercass. We discussed domestic political developments ahead of the upcoming Knesset election, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ways the European Union can contribute to peace and security in the region.

#Lebanon-#Israel: Statement by the Spokesperson on the framework agreement The framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel in Washington offers a much needed positive perspective in the efforts towards de-escalation and peace.

I welcome the agreement between Israel and Lebanon. This is a critical step away from escalation. Because there can be no peace in the Middle East with Lebanon in flames. My thanks to the US for the mediation. Key next steps are the disarmament of non-state groups and preserving Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity. The EU stands ready to support this path to lasting regional stability, also with the continued delivery of much needed humanitarian aid with € 100 million mobilised for the displaced.

With some delay, last night we finally celebrated Europe Day with the Israeli public in Tel Aviv, where our member states showcased the diversity of European culture with some culinary and other treats. Thanks to the Rana Choir and Jasmin Moallem for the great performances! 🇪🇺🇮🇱

As a former journalist, I was glad to open a workshop bringing together civil society for a timely exchange on information integrity. Civil society plays a vital role in democratic resilience, and the EU will continue to support it across Europe, the region and here, in Israel.

It was good to be back in Amman for talks with League of Arab States counterparts. Jordan is a pillar of stability and one of the EU’s closest and most trusted partners in the Middle East. With Foreign Minister @AymanHsafadi, I spoke about the US-Iran peace talks and how the current truce can be turned into a more lasting peace. In Lebanon, Israel and Hezbollah are caught in a dangerous cycle of attacks, counterattacks and fragile ceasefires. With Foreign Minister @YoussefRaggi, I reviewed the EU’s support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and work on establishing a new EU mission in the country. The EU’s naval operation Aspides has a vital role in protecting shipping in the region. With Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssain Omar, I discussed maritime security and the importance of freedom of navigation. With Syria’s Foreign Minister @AsaadHShaibani, I exchanged views on regional security and the country’s path towards an inclusive political transition, building on the exchanges at our recent first ministerial dialogue. I also reviewed the deepening bilateral relations and positive trajectory of EU-Algeria cooperation with Algeria’s Foreign Minister @AhmedAttaf_Dz.

With @Isaac_Herzog, we discussed EU-Israel relations, including open challenges and potential new opportunities to strengthen our cooperation on areas of shared interest. Israel is a key partner. We share deep ties and a common interest in a stable and secure Middle East. We exchanged views on the current regional challenges and on the importance of working together to promote peace, security and stability for all. I reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and the UN Security Council Resolution 2803 ultimately leading to a just and lasting peace based on a two-State solution. @IsraelPresident

Today, I had the honour of visiting @yadvashem, whose work is essential in preserving the memory of the Holocaust and ensuring that future generations understand the consequences of antisemitism. Interreligious dialogue and mutual respect between communities are the foundation of any democracy and of lasting peace. This is why the EU has invested €20 million to combat antisemitism and foster Jewish life, alongside €10.2 million supporting dialogue, inclusion and resilience through Israeli civil society organisations. Protecting freedom of religion or belief for all is at the heart of our values and essential to safeguarding the rich religious diversity that makes the Mediterranean region unique.

Last night I had the honour to host, together with @JewishImpact, an uplifting panel about sports as a platform for dialogue, tolerance and social impact. Thanks to Shino Zoaretz and Yariv Teper from @ISRAELFA, @YoavBorowitz and @mirinevo for joining us. Sports unites us all! ⚽️

I am pleased to be in Israel 🇮🇱, one or our key partners. We share deep ties and a common interest in a stable and secure Middle East. My role is to strengthen cooperation across the Mediterranean region, based on a simple principle: stability, security and prosperity are best achieved through partnerships. And partnerships require open and honest dialogue. I just met @gidonsaar. We discussed ongoing challenges and how we can address them together. I underlined that the EU fully supports Israel's right to security. At the same time, the situation on the ground in Gaza remains deeply concerning. Humanitarian aid must reach all those in need at a greater scale, and the conditions and access for early recovery must be in place. The EU stands ready to do its part alongside with regional and international partners. Equally, a financially sustainable and reformed Palestinian Authority is important for regional stability and security, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803. I have also raised concerns about the deteriorating situation regarding the illegal settlements. The only sustainable path forward remains a negotiated solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security.
