On International Women’s Day, I pay tribute to girls and women everywhere who continue to fight oppression with relentless strength, with unbreakable courage. This strength and courage live within all of us. The power is in us.

Four years into its war, Moscow has failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives. The pressure in the peace talks seems to be falling on Ukraine. But if we want this war to stop and any peace to last, we need to see concessions from Russia. It’s not Ukraine’s army that is the obstacle to peace, Russia’s army is. My doorstep ahead of today’s Foreign Affairs Council ↓

Russia is using cold as a weapon of war. But Ukraine's resistance is remarkable. And Europe's solidarity remains as strong as ever. We are rebuilding Ukraine's energy grid and improving its protection. We are supporting Ukraine through this winter.

From hybrid threats to demographic pressure and economic impact. Our Eastern regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are facing a multitude of challenges. We must support these regions and show our solidarity. Because our security lies in their strength, resilience and stability. With today's Eastern border regions strategy, we're strengthening their security, while boosting growth and regional prosperity. To protect those who protect us.

Russia’s regime doesn’t limit itself to bombing Ukraine, it also keeps silencing opponents at home. Two years ago, Alexei Navalny died in a Russian prison camp, poisoned with a lethal toxin. The Kremlin bears full responsibility. The murder of political opponents is part of the regime’s DNA. It is not a display of strength, but an admission of fear. The EU has sanctioned those responsible for Navalny’s poisoning, arbitrary arrest and sham sentencing. We will continue to use our Russia human rights sanctions regime to ensure accountability for repression.
