At #ACS2, H.E. Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, Somalia’s Minister of Environment & Climate Change, addressed the high level event “Solutions on Climate, Mobility, Peace and Security in Africa” hosted by IOM, AUC, UN-AU & GGGI. He highlighted Somalia’s frontline climate reality, droughts, floods & displacement of 3M people and stressed that climate change is also a human security issue. The Minister outlined Somalia’s priorities resilient communities, turning mobility into an asset, linking peacebuilding with climate action, and tailored climate finance for fragile states. #MoECCSomalia

The recent fire that devastated parts of the Daalo Forest is a painful reminder of how fragile our natural heritage truly is. Daalo is not just a forest it is one of Somalia’s most precious ecosystems, home to endemic plant species, diverse wildlife, and a climate buffer for the Sanaag region. As the flames die down, what remains is not only scorched land but also a sense of deep responsibility. This tragedy should not pass unnoticed. We must act urgently to: ✅ Investigate the cause of the fire ✅ Strengthen early warning and fire response systems ✅ Support reforestation and ecological restoration ✅ Educate local communities on fire prevention ✅ Develop policies to protect and manage critical forest zones
