@EWaddy03 @jimbretzke @atrupar On the contrary, I understand JWT, quite well. You’re showing you misread the facts so you misapply it. Iran is an imminent and ongoing threat to its neighbors, its citizens, Europe, & USA. Multiple WPA votes have been taken in Congress supporting the war.

The Just War Doctrine as it has been developed in the Catholic Tradition clearly would NOT support the kind of armed conflict the Trump Administration as been advancing. I am not sure of the Evangelical Tradition on this one, but I don't think they term it "Just War Theory"
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Mike Johnson says the Pope had it coming: "A religious leader can say anything they want, but obviously if you wade into political waters, you should expect some political response and I think the Pope has received some of that. Frankly I was taken a bit aback by him saying something about 'those who engage in war, Jesus doesn't hear their prayers' or something. There's something called the 'just war' doctrine.'"

@StuffForSisters Depends. He may change his mind. So you'd give him until he's loading the gun. You definitely don't take a pre-emptive shot if there's a risk of hitting innocents. You might extend this thinking to global events.

If a man holds bullets in his hand and is running to grab his gun after vowing to kill innocents nearby, would it be wrong for a long-range sniper to shot him? After all, his presently unloaded weapon cannot hurt anyone and who can say what will happen in the future?

@ddacot @GBPolitcs Do you have any evidence for these assertions? Also, have you ever been to the UK? I've been to the US - both extremely wealthy and extremely poor parts. And yes, parts of it are incredibly wealthy. But other parts are eye-openingly poor, in a way you rarely see in the UK.

Do you realize that if you offer that same set of people two options—immigrate to the UK or the US—9/10 would choose the US? Furthermore, because the demand to immigrate to the US is so high, the majority that make it are well-off high-earners who have enough cash, ultimately driving up prices for all goods, all else equal.

@norvil_jones @jimbretzke @atrupar You're showing that you don't understand the church's teaching on Just War Theory, on these two points alone. You could argue that Just War Theory is wrong, but if you're arguing it's right, Trump's war fails on multiple grounds on a remotely objective assessment.

@EWaddy03 @jimbretzke @atrupar Just cause: Iran has 60% enriched uranium. In terms of a nuclear weapon, that is imminent. Also, ongoing, constant terrorism threat, oppression of Iranians and Lebanese. Passes test. Legitimate authority: War powers act requirements satisfied. Passes test.

@J_D_Sarfati3 @MichalYouDoing Assuming that's true - and I don't think there's the data to prove it either way - the regime remains firmly in place, so how have American actions made that any less likely in the future?

@EWaddy03 @GBPolitcs By looking at how many people would move to the US given the opportunity. The restrictive nature of the US immigration system is a reflection of the demand.

@EWaddy03 @GBPolitcs Cost, is in big part, due to the demand, i.e the US is a better place to live.

@norvil_jones @jimbretzke @atrupar Probability of success: seems low re. nuclear material. Otherwise clouded by changing aims. The test fails. Proportionality: many civilians dead, killed by missiles and bombs they couldn't escape. The regime stands. The test fails.

@norvil_jones @jimbretzke @atrupar Right intention... Maybe passes, although difficult to know what the Trump administration's aims actually are as they have changed so much. Last resort: there was a nuclear proliferation treaty until Trump withdrew from it. Negotiations were ongoing. The test fails.

BREAKING: 🇺🇸 Former U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton: "It is shocking that Trump said no one informed him that Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz. I find it unbelievable that one of the fundamental pillars of geopolitical strategy in the Middle East was ignored. That was the first thing we assumed Iran would do. It is their main tool of global leverage. We are now seeing the consequences of a foreign policy driven by impulse rather than strategy.

Trump doesn't understand Catholics. This is Trump’s blind spot: Trump’s financial and political successes are rooted in a personality cult surrounding the TRUMP brand. Even his preferred religious leaders are appointed solely because they are loyal to Trump first. Trump has failed to understand that Catholics have a greater allegiance to their Pope in Rome. Trump cannot compete with the Pope. Even when a Pope is mid-tier, Catholics will defend their Pope. Pope means “pop” or “dad” and while we may see flaws in our dad, he's still our dad. Historians will mark Trump’s attack on the Pope as one of the primary events that led to his downfall and the downfall of the Republican Party. The Midterms will be ugly. 2025-2026 was a triumphant year for Catholics with the first American Pope ever and a record-breaking increase in Easter conversions. Trump chose the absolute worst moment to throw darts at the Pope, publish profanity on Easter Sunday, and post himself as a “red cross doctor with glowing hands.” Trump cooked himself. He should have celebrated an American Pope and harnessed all the exuberant Catholic energy moving into 2026. But Trump shares the stage with no one. Instead, he attacked the one American who is more powerful and more popular than himself: the American Pope. Trump was blinded by his own (declining) aura.

@PrayerGarden @JosiahHawthorne What I think about this isn't remotely relevant to the preceding 19 tweets. I am going to pray right now. :) And I do mean it charitably, whatever you think... Have a ponder about where you're getting your info, what you believe, and why. I'll draw a line there. Bye!

It's a question. Please answer The word of God says there is only one way to the father. How am I coming off as following the word of Trump..I follow Jesus and he has revealed his hand at play to me. You are giving the impression that you hiding behind saying it's charity but truly it's an off handed attack. You should spend some time in prayer and reflect(see I can play that game as well.

The President gave an excuse for why he posted a blasphemous picture of himself as Jesus. He did not apologize at all. He is not seeking repentance. MAGA Christians: you are okay with this? You will accept his excuse without an apology, and go back to supporting him?

@PrayerGarden @JosiahHawthorne How is that relevant? Why would it matter what we think? This is meant in all charity: you give the impression of following the word of Trump, rather than the word of Christ. Might be worth sitting somewhere quiet and reflecting/praying about this for a bit.

@PrayerGarden @JosiahHawthorne The record (above) shows that you introduced borders into this discussion... I find it's better to listen to what someone says, rather than what someone else says they said. You might find that useful too.

@JosiahHawthorne @EWaddy03 I should have said comes off as saying not said. When you view him big picture you see how little he appears to understand about the world. My point isn't about the borders so let's ch as the hypocrisy he shows

@PrayerGarden @JosiahHawthorne To quote the Pope: "No one has said that the United States should have open borders...I think every country has a right to determine who and how and when people enter...[But] we have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating people with the dignity that they have."

I'm saying walls and restrictions on who enters is a normal part of Everyone's life. From our house, to business, to Vatican to countries. Trump builds a wall and says we need to have legal immigration. The pope says other wise. So I'm showing the hypocrisy of how the pope does exactly what he says Trump is doing wrong. I'm all for walls

@PrayerGarden @JosiahHawthorne Again, you seem to be criticising the Pope in one breath for supposedly living behind walls, while in the next saying that you want to do the same. Does this not seem a little inconsistent?
