The arbitrary judging of these challenges is really ruining the viewing experience. For example, "Best Ebonics" they never clarified "No funny stuff, we want the most accurate black guy impression" That was only stated after they finished. #fishtanklive

Acting Challenge Counter: 9 Art Challenge Counter: 1 This doesn't even include physical challenges which will naturally slant towards Drake. Surely the next challenge is homestuck trivia worth 8 points right? right?? #fishtanklive

Am I the only one who clocked that Letty added 2lbs to Bongo? I could have sworn I saw 145.5 and they called it at 147.5. Am I wrong? #fishtanklive

If I woke up to Jet saying "haha jk", that's funny (kind of) and I go back to sleep. Instead I ruined my sleep for no payoff. They couldn't even be on time for a 3 hour timer

Genuine kudos all around to Bashir on the day after the fight for apologising. I think he genuinely is trying. HOWEVER my takeaway is still, after apologising and making that effort, he immediately begins explaining why "you deserved it though". It's not exactly two people coming to terms and saying "here's my perspective here's yours, can we reconsile", and part of that is definitely on James. And I think Bashir is genuinely trying, but he still has a ways to go. The ultimate takeaway from the conversation is "I am right and if everyone just listened to me, this wouldn't have happened." He admits only to a moment of weakness, which is fed to him by Jet (I do think he is sincere, but he is literally repeating jets words). He is not deep down considering, what did I do wrong, beyond" losing my temper" he fundamentally believes that he is completely in the right and his only flaw is momentary excess. His sorry is good, but the moment he keeps speaking everything he says amounts to justification. "I'm sorry, but, you and I both know you deserved it". Initially in their conversation James is looking directly at him, with Bashir looking away, to the floor. As he talks himself warm and talks himself up, bashirs body language changes and he goes from passive and closed to open and direct, looking now in James face. Instead of opening himself up to James judgement, reply to his apology, he begins to argue why he SHOULD accept his apology, and the more ground James gives, and the more he loses up, the more Bashir tries to take: you accepted my premise, now listen to everything else I'm right about. And he goes on to argue that in the previous weeks, James should have interfered when other people were agressing on Bashir, because it's "unfair" and everyone is ganging up on him. He doesn't say "I wish you would have" - he says "I deserved that, and your inaction is actively depriving me of what I DESERVE". He was genuinely humbled after the conversation with jet yesterday, I think, but as we all do, once you get out of that transformative moment, you regress somewhat to old patterns, and the more Bashir feels safe and in control again, the more he regresses to, what people call "manipulative" behaviour. Although it's not quite that. A lot of his interpersonal trouble comes from larping as a wiser person than he is The biggest bomb of the entire fight and aftermath was in bashirs conversation with jet, in his moment of being humbled, he admits that this scenario - everyone hates him and gangs up on him - is NOT unique to fishtank. He says "yeah in grad school everyone hated me too" or something. And that is important because now we have a pattern of behaviour And it falls back into what I said in the original article: Bashir knows best, he knows how to run the show, he knows what everyone else ought to do. He doesn't consider himself a player, an equal, but as someone who "deserves" things, mainly authority and affection. Fishtank should be the Bashir show and he should be the new Sam Hyde, and it's a failure on everyone else's part not to recognise that self-evident truth. Generously, when he talks about honor, he talks about it aspirationally. Less generously, he wants to be and presents himself as honorable and principled, and he is neither. Generously, he knows this and aspires to be better. Less generously, he doesn't exactly know this about himself, or he doesn't exactly know himself well enough, honestly enough, to know where the line is and when he crosses it. Very ungenerous: Bashir observably operates not on honor, but on face. Gaining face and losing face. I think he strives, but being in between the two systems, I don't think he fully internalises and understands the way he fails. It is genuinely admirable, and I am giving kudos all around, it's a difficult and painful thing. And when he regresses, he regresses into face-behavior: when you attack me, shame on you, when I attack you, shame on you

I’m really not trying to bend over backwards for Mints, but people whining about this are purposely forgetting that Sam was clear about his disgust for the show and its fans throughout the duration of his involvement #fishtanklive
