This signal is definitely worth watching in the Gulf. A piece of energy will pinch off the tail end of a cold front & drift around the Southeast. If it is able to get over the Northeast Gulf or even off the coast of the Southeast, it'll have a chance to develop into a tropical system. If energy forms, it could get scooped up & pulled North by a trough that dives down across the Eastern US. This alone will likely drive an active pattern across the East getting into next week. The Euro AI sniffed this out first. Even in a predicted below average hurricane season, if we are going to get tropical activity, this will be on of the best ways to do it.

🌀 The European Ensemble has 51 members total. Only 5-10 are flagging Gulf development around July 19 — but the AIFS ensemble is showing nearly 90% probability of a tropical depression forming.
