Few observations after being on the production side of events: 1) I’m impressed things go as smoothly as they do at most events 2) the short answer to most twitter screams about why/how things should be done better: permitting and insurance 3) I notice zip-ties a lot more

Great to see the @Carlsbad_5000, which nearly folded, seemingly rejuvenated with over 4,000 combined finishers and strong elite fields in today’s races. Would’ve been sad for this gem to disappear.

@ghaapala @CEM_MikeNishi @michaelclemons @CouncilForSport Thinking ribbon repurposing, we’ve gotten to a point where a many think it’s chintzy now, but the old “clip-on” style of ribbon/medal attachment could maybe be reused as an event credential lanyard if it made a comeback.

A couple initial ideas are to make sandbags out of leftover medals (an old Austin Marathon trick!) or to find a non-profit that wants to unthread them from their ribbons and then take them to a scrap metal facility which will pay them by the pound.
