He is of Nigerian descent, sure, but would I describe Bukayo Saka as a “Nigerian baller”? Not really. He was culturally formed (football education) in England. That is not denying his heritage, just recognising the environment that shaped him. The same applies to Rice & Grealish.

@OBEhizele Yeah they were educated in English academies but grew up representing Ireland internationally, they’re more ‘Irish ballers’ than saka is Nigerian or even Guehi is an ‘Ivorian baller’

I kind of understand where some are coming from when they look at the French team or English team for the World Cup and it’s not majority native English or French players. Let’s be honest …. Would we like to see a an African team with mostly Europeans in it? Unfortunately many African or Caribbean football teams don’t have the money or choose not to invest heavily in football so many choose not to represent their country or their country isn’t even in the World Cup. How is that the common working class English man’s fault🤷🏽‍♀️

What’s the point in a ‘national’ football team if someone who is NOT from that nation can join? Maguire should play for England. Guéh should play for Ivory Coast. Common sense. I’m sure Maguire isn’t even allowed to contest this decision because, as his shirt says in the photo below, ‘no room for racism’.
