I just tipped 20% on a bottle of water I grabbed out of a mini-fridge myself.
I brought it to the counter.
The cashier didn't even scan it.
He just pushed a button and spun the POS terminal around.
The screen suggested 20, 25, or 30 percent.
For a moment, I considered finding the custom tip option.
But there was a line of people behind me.
The cashier was making direct, unblinking eye contact.
I folded under the pressure of a digitized guilt trip.
I paid $4.80 for a Poland Spring.
I basically gave a teenager a dollar to legally supervise me purchasing hydration.
He didn't even offer a receipt.
He just spun the tablet back around and looked away.
I said thank you.
I thanked him for letting me give him extra money.
I am part of the problem.

Another race-based law in Canada, but this time it's public safety that is affected. Aboriginal applicants can bypass the mandatory safety course and test with just an elder’s recommendation – no certified training. It gets even better: children under 12 can get a firearms licence for “traditional hunting practices” based solely on a recommendation, with no course or standardized test required. Two-tier gun safety by ancestry is irresponsible, dangerous, and racist.

Bypassing #EU #AgeVerification using their own infrastructure. I've ported the Android app logic to a Chrome extension - stripping out the pesky step of handing over biometric data which they can leak... and pass verification instantly. Step 1: Install the extension Step 2: Register an identity (just once) Step 3: Continue using the web as normal The extension detects the QR code, generates a cryptographically identical payload and tells the verifier I'm over 18, which it "fully trusts". This isn't a bug... it's a fundamental design flaw they can't solve without irrevocably tying a key to you personally; which then allows tracking/monitoring. Of course, I could skip the enrolment process entirely and hard-code the credentials into the extension... and the verifier would never know.

The Python Software Foundation is raising a red flag regarding attendance at their upcoming PyCon conference (which takes place in just 28 days). According to the organizers, hotel bookings for the conference are significantly, wildly down over previous years. So much lower, in fact, that the Python Software Foundation needs to book an additional 1,146 *more* hotel nights in order to simply hit the "hotel minimum bookings" and avoid significant, potentially crippling, fees from the hotel. And those hotel bookings need to be made by April 20th. Which means Python has less than 6 days to book over a thousand hotel nights. This is made all the more dire by the ongoing financial issues, which the Python Software Foundation continues to face, after rejecting a $1.5 Million dollar US tax payer grant last year. (The US government said that the grant had a requirement of NOT discriminating based on race. Python decided discriminating based on race was more important than the money.) The Python Software Foundation is blaming the lack of interest in their conference on... the "current situation" in "the US".
