I don’t think we actually listen to podcasts the way we think we do. It’s usually background noise, multitasking, missing parts… then rewinding and trying to piece it back together. Curious if that’s just me or if others do the same.

@RoaringHammy It’s not about which platform is ‘best’ anymore. It’s about which one won’t pull the rug out from under you next!

Is X the best place for creators to post their content? I read online that many creators are leaving tik tok

@49ersTakes__ Honestly it’s not just Apple. Most podcast apps feel like they stopped evolving years ago. They play audio, sure, but actually deciding what to listen to or managing episodes is still weirdly frustrating.

@XStrangeHistory I hear you on the indie creator side of this. It definitely feels harder to get traction than it used to. I think a lot of it comes down to incentives shifting more than anything else.

YouTube no longer seems interested in indie creators. They’re pivoting to become a distribution platform for big productions, networks, and established media companies. Their business model is shifting. They’re making it harder for smaller creators to earn money, and it feels like they’d prefer us gone entirely. That way, they could keep 100% of the ad revenue without sharing it with anyone. What makes it worse is the lack of real competition. Rumble isn’t a viable alternative for most—it’s largely known for political livestreams, and mainstream audiences rarely go there. I wish that weren’t the case, but it is. I’ve been uploading original videos and podcasts here on X, even though they mostly get ignored for now. But that won’t last forever. X has the potential to become the go-to platform for videos and podcasts, and I’m really hoping it does. YouTube doesn’t want us anymore. They got what they could out of us. We made them lots of money at no cost to them at all. Our value to them has come to an end.

I feel like most podcast apps stop at the basics. But that’s not really how people listen. What do you wish your podcast app did better?

Be honest…are you actually listening to podcasts, or just using them as background noise while you multitask through life?

@GlitchValkyrie I think it’s more the incentives around podcasts that changed than the format itself. What do you think changed the most?

Podcasts used to be a cool free flow media format. Now they have all been captured by politics and special interests, just like mainstream media. Like running inside a hamster wheel, it might give you exercise but you never arrive at a new destination.

@jackmoses777 That’s an interesting way to look at it. Turning forced stillness into something intentionally productive is a powerful shift in perspective.

I don't understand why everyone dreads long flights so much. I feel like I change the trajectory of my life every time I take a 20-hour flight across the world. I sit on my computer, listen to podcasts, write, work, introspect, and plan my next season of life (usually fueled by a fair amount of caffeine). By the end of it, I've produced a bunch of content, clarified my vision, and know the exact moves that will get me to the next level. Looking back, long flights often end up being the most transformational days of my year. I look forward to them every time I go traveling for this reason.

One of the most frustrating things about doing a podcast is that the vast majority of people are completely unreliable. They don't answer or if they do, they don't show up. It's beyond frustrating.
