Brielle Benefield, a senior visual arts student and pitcher on the softball team, was busy moving into her dorm. “I still had a lot of stuff to do,” she says, “but I stopped doing that. I’m a Florida girl, and I know the devastation hurricanes can cause.”

@mathemactivist @Quasilocal Agreed! We think a #LiberalArts education is the best path to becoming an engaged and productive citizen. It teaches creativity, imagination, collaboration, communication, and analytic and interpersonal skills. Just what the world needs!

I know this is unpopular here, but I think forcing people to take *any* specific courses outside of what they want to pursue is counter-productive to learning.

I rarely if ever see liberal arts students cry about having to take math classes but virtually every engineering student who is going to enter into a six figure career cries because they have to take demanding courses like “How to Read” and “Some Stuff That Happened In The Past”

The point of a liberal arts education is not to get a good job.
But I should say… My corporate career is going REALLY well, and I can’t imagine having my success without my liberal arts background. (Also, my boss—who is a badass boss—studied Russian lit.)
