@nna_schmidt @duffy_ma 20m depth tow but a week or two ago we found some with a 2 m tow off our pier, I thought hemoglobin as well especially with how strongly anoxic Mendota gets, but I’m leaning parasite which is cool!

We've been seeing some pink spiny water flea pop up in Lake Mendota (not all, usually just 1 -5 amidst normal spinies) and I'm not sure what might be the cause... Carotenoids from a change in diet? Spirobacillus @duffy_ma ? Something else? Send your idea! Detailed photos in 🧵
