This weekend my dad got scammed by an ad for a company that sells on @shopify and processes payments through WHOP. They claimed to sell 100% cotton shirts but what came was a 95% polyester shirt that was extremely low quality (aka a piece of junk). He paid $80 for 2 shirts. The company name has the word Toronto in it (e.g. Shirts Toronto) but their website says they're based in Florida and all of their product ships directly from China. The refund policy forces you to ship directly back to China at your own expense. In addition if the product is lost or confiscated at the border, they also take no liability. On the first attempt to get a refund they offered a 10% refund for the order and not having to send the product back. 🤡 behavior. To all the e-com operators reading this, this is a typical experience your customers are facing with other brands. It's super important to leverage clear communication, strong refund policies, social proof, and damn good service to build trust with your customers. The bar is very low but consumer skepticism is always very high. To the Shopify employees reading this, I haven't reported it yet, but this is extremely depressing to experience on the platform. It's obviously very hard to catch sellers like this selling fake products and employing predatory practices, but it would be great if there was some formal way to report companies like this.
