“Rejoining the EU” wouldn’t mean returning to the Britain of 2015. Britain would likely have to accept freedom of movement again, align with EU law, contribute financially and lose many of the opt-outs it once had. The old deal is gone. #Brexit

@thinkdefence The armed forces aren’t a graduate scheme. Officers and soldiers are being trained for fundamentally different responsibilities from day one. Modernising infrastructure is sensible. Pretending distinction, culture and separate leadership development are outdated relics isn’t.

Officers and other ranks should do a joint service phase 1 common syllabus. A single, modern facility. We will soon be in 2030, yet have separation like its 1930. We need to move on and reflect the reality of today's young people.

@SalsburyBilly @BBCBreaking Hi Billy, my point is that changing the leader does not fix the fundamental issue, which is policy. Unless you see radical inter-party policy change, replacing the leader before the next general election changes very little.

@jessalinecaine Democracy doesn’t stop the moment a referendum ends, but constantly reopening major constitutional questions also creates instability. There’s probably a balance somewhere between permanence and permanent relitigation.

Ten years ago, this country democratically voted LEAVE. It’s done now. You can’t have referendums willy nilly

I think there’s definitely truth in this. The weaponising of religion for political or cultural agendas should be called out for what it is. At that point it starts feeling more like identity politics than genuine faith. Can’t help but feel like we have our friends over the pond to blame.

“Britain is a Christian country” usually translates to: “I haven’t been to church in 15 years but I need a reason to hate immigrants.”

@GuidoFawkes A new leader without new ideas is just a reshuffle, not a reset. If Streeting wants to position himself differently on Europe, it HAS to reflect a broader change in direction and policy. Otherwise it’s just another personality contest distracting everyone from governing.
