I don’t think people understand how demotivating this kind of talk can be. If the bar is set embarrassingly low, what is the kid supposed to do about it? All you’re communicating is that the work isn’t significant, and the best they can hope for is your disdain. So why participate at all? Building a cabin for your family would probably be more satisfying.

On day 1 of my high school history class, our professor got up and said You are 15 or 16 years old. 200 years ago people your age were married, planted crops, had children, and built a cabin by winter. You can do your homework. The bar set for you historically is embarrassingly low. You are not dealing with regional famine or plague. You do not have to save your family from marauders or go into battle to destroy your enemies. You have to sit down and learn from someone who cares about you in a safe, air-conditioned room. You have no excuses.

@DonLostInTN OOC scheds are booked yrs in advance. Happily we play NC St next yr so 2026 is the last year Tech have to listen to all the whining. For the record Tech scheduled the Ore St series in 2018 when Pac12 was still P5. OSU went 18-8 in the 2 seasons preceding the conf break up btw.

And the difference was that "phantom" holding call was legit while your center tackled our DT. Doubt we're going to see eye to eye on this so I'll just say good luck in the CFP.

Notre Dame lost at home to Texas A&M. Texas beat Texas A&M at home by 10. Notre Dame’s best win is 3-loss USC. Texas has 3 wins over Top 10 (or 15, Vandy viewpoint) teams. Why is Notre Dame in over Texas? Why is the Florida loss is the only thing that matters?

People who believe Texas should “just win its games and stop crying” are missing the point entirely. Take away the Ohio State game. Does that 9-2 Texas team get in the playoff? 100%. Texas isn’t “taking its ball and going home” by cancelling future big-time non-conference games if it chooses to do so. The CFP committee is forcing that on not just Texas, but everyone else too. And that sucks.
