Today, I joined Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State at the Yoruba Tennis Club in Onikan for their Centenary Seminar Lecture. In his lecture, Governor Oborevwori spoke on inclusive governance and national unity, a timely reminder of the role leadership must play in bringing our country closer together.

Today, at the 19th Executive and Legislative Parley, I took a moment to reflect on where we are and where we are headed. As this administration moves toward its final stretch, our focus is on ensuring that the progress we have made together becomes a permanent part of how Lagos works. We are currently working on a Legacy and Transition Bill to send to the House of Assembly to lock our key policies into law so the next government inherits more than just a list of finished buildings, they inherit a working system that can’t be easily undone. You can expect that in the coming months, there will be no abandoned projects. Every strategic infrastructure project, especially in transport, will be completed and commissioned. We are finishing what we started. By the third quarter, we will release a data-driven report. It will be an honest account of our achievements and the work that still needs to be done. We are also convening a Citizens’ Assembly to make sure women, youth and people living with disabilities have a permanent seat at the table. It is easy for focus to slip as a transition approaches but I’ve urged my team to resist that temptation. We owe it to you to keep our foot on the pedal until the very last day. I am grateful to the House of Assembly for the partnership that has made our THEMES+ agenda possible. We have a lot of work left to do and we are staying focused till the very end.

Today, we hosted the 159th meeting of the Joint Revenue Board at Lagos House, Marina. Lagos State is fully aligned with the national framework and we are focused on building a more sustainable fiscal system through practical reforms and strong collaboration. As a key driver of national growth in Nigeria, we understand the need for revenue systems that are fair and easy to engage with. In 2024, we generated ₦1.3 trillion in internally generated revenue, a 45% increase from the previous year. Our IGR now finances over 60% of the state’s budget. Our ongoing reforms are aimed at improving our IGR while also strengthening public trust and service delivery. The goal is to increase what the state earns, build trust, and ensure that people can clearly see how their money is being used. We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to align policies and ensure that revenue administration supports real improvements in infrastructure, services and everyday life for the people of Lagos State.

Today, I spoke at the opening session of the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit in London, where I shared a message that our greatest strength in the Commonwealth is our people, and Africa must be central to its future. In Lagos, we are building with purpose. Since our re-election in 2023, we have stayed focused on making the city work better for over 24 million residents. We have launched our metro rail system with our Blue and Red Lines and we are close to completing one of the largest children’s hospitals on the continent. We are also digitising our land and revenue systems to make doing business simpler and more transparent. Across infrastructure, healthcare, and technology, we are creating real opportunities and working with partners who are ready to grow with us. I also announced that we will host Invest in Lagos 3.0 this June in partnership with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. It will be a platform for real transactions and bankable opportunities. Lagos is ready to work with partners who bring technology, expertise, and a long-term vision. We are building with intent, and the opportunities ahead speak for themselves.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is greeting you all, especially Lagosians along Agbado-crossing, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Oyingbo. Our new coaches, 24 car trains are ready. The Governor took delivery of them today. We promised. We’re delivering. There’d be an improvement on these red line corridors.
