A good question: his "attempts" aren't arousing. They're a negotiation. He's basically attempting to convince her to be aroused. That doesn't work. Here's the deal: 1. There's physical, hormonal, and psychological arousal. Physical is usually things like looks, movement, and even smell. Hormonal is just that (heavily affected by some birth control and age). This can include some anti-depressants. And then there's psychology... for men, it's usually predicated on appreciating the woman. For women, it's usually predicated on admiring the man. 2. Her "interest" in arousal is NOT relevant. Nor is yours. Arousal isn't negotiated. It just happens IF the right things trigger it. That doesn't mean sex... that's another issue. 3. Is the man (and vice-versa) doing things that generate arousal in her? Well, if she's young and not on SSRIs or birth control, then you're left with two simple things. Does she find you physically attractive? Are you conducting yourself in a manner that she admires and thus would be aroused by? Those two questions will cover 95% of people, if the other things aren't relevant. 4. Just because she's aroused doesn't mean that sex is an option BUT if she is aroused and doesn't want sex, that's a critical conversation. My point is... arousal has nothing to do with consent or desire or interest. You can arouse women all the time, just like they can arouse you, whether you want it or not.
