Secretary (West) @AmbSibiGeorge addressed the Inaugural Session of SaGAA VIII 2025 “Confrontation to Collaboration in a Fractured World”. Highlighting 🇮🇳’s polar approach, he stressed that polar region is rapidly becoming integral to the global climate system, global economy and global security matrix. He called for stakeholders to engage globally, contribute scientifically and act responsibly. He alluded to 🇮🇳’s rich maritime history and its Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) which is based on the principle of rules based maritime order anchored in UNCLOS and assured of 🇮🇳’s positive collaborative approach to the polar issues. On the margins of the conference, Secretary (West) had a meeting with Ms. Camilla Brekke, Director, Norwegian Polar Institute and discussed 🇮🇳’s bilateral cooperation with Norway in the Arctic region.

Dr. M. Ravichandran, @Ravi_MoES Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, addressed the SaGAA VIII Leadership Conference at IIC, New Delhi, emphasising how shifts across the Arctic, Antarctic, and Himalayas directly influence India’s monsoons, agriculture, extreme weather, and sea-level rise. He highlighted that the Arctic—far more fragile than Antarctica—is witnessing rapid glacier loss, thinning ice, rising CO₂ trends, and warming surface waters, while the Southern Ocean is heating faster, signalling the urgency for action. He underlined the need for stronger science–policy–industry collaboration and outlined key priorities: real-time observations, research-driven remedies, open data, global partnerships, capacity building across continents, regulated tourism, emergency readiness, geo-strategic awareness, science diplomacy, and critical infrastructure strengthening. #SaGAA2025 #ClimateScience #LeadershipConference @narendramodi @mygovindia @PMOIndia @OfficeofDrJS @DrJitendraSingh @PIB_India @Mib_India @PIBEarthScience @ESSO_INCOIS @MoesNiot @Indiametdept @ncs_earthquake @CentreCoastal @esso_ncess @iitmpune @cmlre_kochi @ncaor_goa @ncmrwfmoes

Earlier this month, the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland, in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, hosted the Nordic–India Dialogue in Reykjavík on September 4–5. This was the second edition in the series and was organized in partnership with the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), Ananta Centre, the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The Nordic–India Dialogue highlighted shared democratic values and strong potential for cooperation in climate action, green technologies, digital innovation, and the blue economy. Discussions underscored India’s rapid economic rise, sustainability agenda, and the importance of balanced global partnerships in a shifting world order. Maritime security, Arctic–Indian Ocean linkages, and resource resilience emerged as critical areas of collaboration, alongside opportunities in trade, technology, and higher education. The dialogue concluded that combining Nordic expertise with India’s scale and dynamism can drive sustainable growth, innovation, and global stability. #NordicIndiaRelations
