A6: watching the stream for greater access to resources, but teaching of prominent women within a wide breadth of societies seems to be a good start! #sschat

@DrKristenDuncan @AnnaMMills I understand completely! I felt like I had only been taught such a small portion of the whole image, not that our standards haven't been guilty of that continuously... #sschat

@AnnaMMills I felt so cheated when I learned more about Rosa Parks that I taught ALL my students the full story...no matter what the actual subject of the course was lol #sschat

@DrKristenDuncan A4: usually WOC narratives deal with struggles. Meaning, the story can sound like it was inevitable that they would have to struggle, as if it was their fault. What needs to be taught is that most often, CHOICE was involved by the larger society to make it harder for WOC. #sschat

Q4: Let's go back to the women of color that are currently in social studies curriculum. What kind of narratives are we presenting about them?#sschat

A4: following the similar responses, the narratives within these figures are about singular events or achievements, rather than the wider power struggle that is continuous. or that one event solved every issue of the advocates, which is a misrepresentation #sschat

A3: Most of the time people tell the story from the "Great Men" of history. This is probably due to much of the people getting to decide what the curriculum is are from white families. #sschat

A3: this scarcity comes from systemic power differences in those who teach versus those who write curriculum. sharing the experiences of those who have been continually silenced is something that scares those in power but must be changed #sschat

A2: since almost every historical event can be analyzed from the perspective of all involved, the perspective from women of color can be brought into most, if not all, events. searching for additional resources, especially from diverse perspectives is the first step #sschat

time.graphics/line/217621 This timeline can be used with lessons surrounding World War 2 and the effect of the war on societal norms. Creating timelines assists in teaching history by allowing the student creativity to highlight events they favor. #w200 @Kjantara

Creating concept maps can be a useful tool for both the educator and the student. Within this concept map, I mapped out a standard and how I would choose to tackle objectives in terms of standards. Students can easily map out their own ideas for projects also! #w200 @Kjantara
