NPR has a lot of different educational podcasts that you can find. There are podcasts about history and the news like "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" which is pretty funny. #educw200 @educguo30

A6: I think looking at current events would be a great way to not just look at the them as historical actors #sschat

A5: If we have the students understand the systems of oppression, they will understand the great importance of these women's actions #sschat

@DrKristenDuncan A4: usually WOC narratives deal with struggles. Meaning, the story can sound like it was inevitable that they would have to struggle, as if it was their fault. What needs to be taught is that most often, CHOICE was involved by the larger society to make it harder for WOC. #sschat

Q4: Let's go back to the women of color that are currently in social studies curriculum. What kind of narratives are we presenting about them?#sschat

A4: Like everyone else is saying, a lot of the time they are only focusing in on the personal struggle and less about the over all power relations that were in play #sschat

A3: Most of the time people tell the story from the "Great Men" of history. This is probably due to much of the people getting to decide what the curriculum is are from white families. #sschat

#sschat A3. Because not only of obvious factors of racism, sexism, and classism suppressing the narrative of almost all women of color, but also because of the messianic nature of how freedom struggles are portrayed in America.

@brian_loring Yes. Ida Wells was involved in the early NAACP. Also presents opportunities to talk about how not all involved in civil rights movement had the same views and strategies for doing the work. #sschat

A2) I think it's important to ask students to think about who we tend not to hear from and why. Does that mean they aren't there or do we have to dig deeper? #sschat

A2: I think talking about the founding of the NAACP and some of the major women that worked there would be a great way to intro WOC in the classroom. We could also talk about WOC from the present as well #sschat

A1: In school I remember learning about Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks, but sadly that was about it. I hope to introduce more WOC in my classroom when I am a teacher. #sschat
