Congrats to OVMS Student Teacher Katie Paolillo! Katie was selected as one of only five Indiana University Bloomington 2021-22 teacher candidates to receive the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s (IACTE) Outstanding Future Educator Award. @OvmsPatriots

Today during student teaching, my self-contained classroom did a lesson on comparing and contrasting animal and human body parts. This was inspired by a book in @TeachTown enCORE curriculum. This was a fun lesson that engaged students both in-person and virtually!

Last week, I helped two students in an inclusion Language Arts class write a narrative essay about an event in their life that they learned a lesson from. We used a plot pyramid to structure the essay. This was a great learning experience for all!

I explored the Early EDventures YouTube channel. I think it's cool that a teacher is using this platform to help other teachers. I plan to watch a lot of her videos for new ideas to use in the classroom! @educguo30 #educw200

A5: Sharing literally any and all advice you have! We need role models who are credible and have real experience in the classroom. I'm always so skeptical of some teaching blogs or twitter accounts because anyone could claim to have experience! #kinderchat

R5: I think it would be great to have more people participate. It would be cool to hear from more teachers and more preservice teachers to gain more insight #kinderchat

@educgracenugent Teachers should form their opinions about standardizing testing once they are educated about them. Sadly, this isn't always what happens #kinderchat

@EducateKatie I definitely agree with this! Standardized tests have become such a large part of education, so it is important for teachers to understand their purpose and content. #kinderchat

R4: At IU, there are no classes offered in undergrad education programs that cover standardized testing. I think it's important to be educated about standardized tests. We need to know what they measure so that we know how to interpret the results. #kinderchat

@missaureliac I was always that child. It was reassuring when teachers and adults could calm me down and I want to be able to do the same for my future students #kinderchat

A4: I think that they should teach us ways to calm down crying/upset children when they get dropped off by their parents/caregivers because it often takes a long time & can be distracting to other kids #kinderchat

@educgracenugent I also enjoyed this class. I think it's important for all teachers to take this to have a base knowledge of special education #kinderchat

R3: One class that has really stood out for me is called Introduction to Exceptional Learners. This class taught me how to teach students with disabilities and modify my lessons fit their needs. I feel that this class is very important for all teachers to take. #kinderchat

@KC_SEASportsFan My sister has autism and can speak very well. She is 17. She is taking an ASL class this year and she LOVES it because she can communicate with her deaf friend a lot better. #kinderchat

R3: My cadet teaching class in high school was great because I was able to be in the classroom everyday. I got to do hands-on activities every day and got feedback from my supervising teachers that has helped me tremendously! #kinderchat

R2: I worked at DQ and then at a DIY art studio as a mini manager. I help customers make decisions and ease their worries through the creation process. I believe it has helped me with my social skills as well as being responsible! #kinderchat
