Bringing learning outside! This sight word puddle jump is a great outdoor activity when teaching literacy. Students in kindergarten can splash onto a familiar sight word and say it out loud. @PJLanguageArts

I recommend listening to this podcast. In this episode Dr Brown speaks on teaching literacy to kindergarten as she focuses on phonological awareness. Her work focuses on beginning reading, word recognition, and comprehension. ⁦@PJLanguageArtspodcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/e35…

How cute is this seashell word activity? Kindergarteners can trace their finger through the sand to spell each word on the seashell. 🐚 This activity helps students memorize each letter to form common sight words. @PJLanguageArts

During my JK/SK placement, I had a student that had an interest in cars. When practicing printing and tracing we would pretend their finger or the pencil was a car to encourage participation. This activity takes that a step further using small cars to trace. @PJLanguageArts

This fun literacy centre uses nets and ping pong balls to create words from the same word families. Students can scoop up a letter and read out the letter combined with its ending. This enhances students memory of different word families. @PJLanguageArts

Some students learn better with tactile materials. In this activity, students can touch the play-doh as they sound out the first, middle, and last sound of each word. @PJLanguageArts #Kindergarten
