I’m participating in Walk MS in honor of my birthday in April. This event brings people living with MS and those closest to them together in a powerful way. Your support puts us one step closer to a cure. Can I count on you? Donate today! do.nr/uovwtl2v via @DonorDrive

A @sscsdschools kindergarten student show how their work with letter formation, spacing, spelling of high-frequency words, self-expression, and communication of scientific knowledge grew over four months. Now that’s what we call #results - ow.ly/oYLI50NIskN

Decoding necessary to reading, but INSUFFICIENT. Yes kids need phonemic awareness but no one ever became a reader because they were psyched about consonant blends. See 10 dimensions of reading necessary to joy+love+deep engagement #Reading #English sites.google.com/boisestate.edu…

Another #firstweek activity is to have students organize their Drive. Have you ever looked at their #Googledrive?? It's similar to looking under their bed! #messy Too many times we assume Ss have #Google skills and don't explicitly teach them. bit.ly/3JNqrUZ

1 of the problems w/ Science of Reading:"What’s happening in NYC reflects broader trend where teachers are expected to negotiate contradictory pressures to teach reading in culturally relevant way but assess reading in ways that strips it of all relevance" edweek.org/teaching-learn…

@markseidenberg I won't take a position on the dispute on PA, etc., but what concerns me most about "science of reading" efforts is that they often omit the need to start building academic knowledge early. The evidence is clear. Focusing on decoding alone won't ensure literacy for most kids.
