For those considering voting Green in Wales: Wales will languish under Westminster corruption and neglect until we have a party seeking self-determination for our nation. PLAID CYMRU is the progressive choice in these troubled times. Come with us. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I'm in awe of what I just watched, he's just admitted that a future Reform government will put detention centres in non-Reform constituencies to spite people who didn't vote for them Do they realise how this comes across, because this is utterly mad

What the John K. apologists fail to understand is that he and I weren’t “contemporaries”… I first saw “Big House Blues” at film festivals in 1990 (before Nickelodeon had picked it up) when I was barely 20 years old. I remember thinking, “WHY AREN’T CARTOONS LIKE THIS ANY MORE?!” I was an instantly a converted and baptized disciple. So, you see, I wasn’t “jealous of him” … I frigging IDOLIZED him! By the time I had moved to LA and broke into the industry in 1997, R&S was over, but I was one of the eager souls waiting to see what he did next! Naturally, I would fantasize about working for him, but I also knew Spumco was WAY outta my league. Whenever I’d hear about him being rough on his artists, I’d write it off and think, “Of course he’s a perfectionist! Nothin’ wrong with that! It’s probably why he’s so great!” Eventually I’d become acquainted with guys who had worked with him… the reviews were mixed, but I always assumed that anyone who didn’t like him simply didn’t appreciate his genius. Every time K. had a new project brewing (especially “Ripping Friends”) I’d eagerly count the minutes for its debut. But each project seemed to suffer from the same issues of delays and fighting, and each project was less and less entertaining. But I stood my ground! He’d occasionally do a music video where I’d be like, “Ah! Here we are! The maestro is back!” but then there’d be nothing for ages. Eventually, my own career was chugging along at a decent pace and while I still considered him a major influence, I no longer aspired to be “the next John K.” … I wanted to be “the first John F.” I was maturing. By the time he was staffing up for “Adult Party Cartoon” I had my own shows in development and I felt the same way about him as I did Butch Hartman, whom I had walked away from: I wished them both success and happiness, but I had my own shit going on. I have never felt “competitive” with anyone in the industry because I always firmly believed that there was room for everyone… the more cartoons, the better! Then I started teaching at CalArts and mentoring interns at Nickelodeon. That’s when I started hearing about his inappropriate behavior around young, female students and animators. The stories were firsthand and got more and more distressing. That’s when I finally realized that John K. was no longer merely a “has-been”… he was an absolute scumbag. And, according to all accounts, he always WAS a scumbag. Even then I didn’t know just how bad it was, but by the time the rest of it was exposed, I was no longer “disappointed”… I was angry. I had idolized him and now I felt like an accomplice to his lechery. So, you see, John K. fandom, I was once one of YOU. The difference is, I refuse to make excuses pedophellia, grooming and child pornography. And if that’s not enough reason to scorn the guy, I simply have no words for you. But I would urge you to understand something: You may worship him, but I assure you that he doesn’t give a fuck about you and sees you merely as a stepping stone back into mainstream acceptance wherein I have no doubt he would pick up right where he left off. No cartoon is worth that.

JOHN KRICFALUSI: Misunderstood Genius or Lottery-Winner and Predator? A Thread 🧵 by “F” The main reason we even know the name “John K.” is because he came along at a time when people had been absolutely STARVED for a decent cartoon. It’s as though everyone had been stuck in an elevator for 20 years with a Muzak version of “Tiny Bubbles” playing on a loop and out of nowhere the doors opened, K. got on with an electric guitar and started playing “Livin’ on a Prayer” with some competency. It’s not that the song is that great or his playing was so masterful… it’s that we got a taste of something GOOD again. When you’ve been living with “lame” long enough, “good” can seem “great.” So… is K. “great” or did he just come along at the right time? Let’s examine what we know: - His drawing skills absolutely cannot be denied. He has mastered the art of drawing like John K. and he either cannot or sees no reason to work in any other style, because - as he will tell you with vehement and psychopathic rage - all other styles are shit and unworthy of acknowledgment. - The first two seasons of “Ren and Stimpy” were truly hilarious and beautifully executed… but how much of that can be attributed to him? He surrounded himself with eager, young talent who were anxious to prove themselves and work on something worthwhile, which allowed him to mentor them - but it also allowed him to berate, abuse and beat them into submission at every possible opportunity. So… yes, seasons 1 & 2 were great… but were they great BECAUSE of him or IN SPITE of him? Or both? It’s a legitimate question when you consider what came afterwards, but we’ll get to that later. - During that first two seasons, he would go on to loudly decry anyone who wasn’t him. The Simpsons, anime, his employers, his former peers… if you weren’t Ralph Bakshi or John K., you were an idiot. This created an “US vs. THEM” ecosystem that is still alive today. You can’t possibly love Miyazaki AND Ren & Stimpy, because K. had declared that only one type of animation style matters. - Despite working his crews day and night, every episode seemed to be late. Nickelodeon was constantly having to compensate and work around it (while also enduring his petulant attitude) because… well… money! - Famously, it all collapsed and everyone pointed the finger at big, bad ol’ Nickelodeon for the crime of expecting K. to fulfill his contractual responsibilities. So he became a beloved martyr. But surely whatever came NEXT would show ‘em… right?! Right? - “Ripping Friends”… um… okay… “Yogi Bear”… ummmm… “George Liquor Internet Cartoon”… hmmm… “Cans without Labels” (still not done)… and let’s not forget the thing that was supposed to thoroughly redeem him: “R&S Adult Party Cartoon”… ugh. Each of these were supposed to vindicate K. and prove his detractors wrong… but each one of these was riddled with missed deadlines, broken promises and, let’s face it, a distinct lack of… “FUNNY”! I was as big a John K. fan as anyone…. Thoroughly embedded in his camp… but eventually I had to ask the uncomfortable question: How many more second chances should we give this guy? Members of his crews went on to do great things… so what if it was THEM propping him up all along? I’ve been in a room with both Vince Waller and John K. Vince will crack you up. K. Will make you feel like an insect. I’m just sayin’. All of these things are enough reason to say, “Yeah… eff that guy.” And THEN there’s the REST of it… Grooming… abuse… harassment… statutory “improprieties”… and the hard drive filled with stuff that ruined the lives of countless children… stuff he got off on. Think about that. You really wanna make excuses for that? I’m perfectly capable of separating the art from the artist… I am still able to enjoy R&S for their craftsmanship and contribution to reviving the art of the cartoon. But as for John K. himself? He can go straight to hell and stay there.

Historically the UK and Japan have exchanged their native plant species, cherry blossom trees being a main one, and since 2016 Japan has gifted over 7,000 cherry trees as a sign of friendship, that's why you randomly see them all over the country, this sort of thing has been going on for over a century now, a specific species of tree called the Tai-Haku actually went completely extinct in Japan for centuries, but a British ornithologist called Collingwood Ingram discovered a dying tree in someone's garden, and he was able to send cuttings over to Japan via the Tran-Siberian Express and successfully reintroduce the species back to Japan, so every Tai-Haku in Japan is descended from the cuttings of the last dying tree in existence, which just happened to be in a random garden in Sussex

Remember.... Don't burn the meatballs! I think this was the biggest challenge I've given myself in a while. I started it in April last year and have been slowly chipping away at it since then. #animation #2danimation
