The understanding of kratom, and its benefits for consumers who responsibly consume safely formulated, properly labeled, and age-restricted kratom products, is shown in the rapid acceptance by consumers. A newly published study shows that the prevalence of kratom use has reached 9% of the population. The key issue is assuring that safe kratom products are available to consumers, and stopping adulterated or synthesized kratom products from masquerading as pure kratom. The American Kratom Association is dedicated to public policies that protect consumers, not kratom manufacturers, and that specifically excludes adulterated and synthesized kratom products. The FDA has conducted its own safety study on kratom and found that kratom appeared to be well tolerated at all dose levels (12 grams of kratom material ingested in a 5 minute period with no serious adverse events -- only nausea experienced by both the kratom and placebo study participants). It is time to focus on eliminating the bad actors, and the FDA should do their job to achieve that goal.
