@AlexiLalas @nypost No. That’s how you’ve come across to me. You defend the current pay to play model far more than you question it. Rather than exploring alternatives, you usually dismiss them through a market-driven lens. That’s part of why I think U.S. soccer hasn’t evolved enough in 30 years

@jaycaspiankang @TVietor08 Weak to pile on just Pulisic. That result wasn’t on one player. Ten other guys were on the field, and plenty of them had poor performances too. Hold the whole team accountable…

@AlexiLalas you say “don’t tell others how to run their biz,” yet the current system is built around a federation-sanctioned structure that heavily shapes how professional soccer operates. That’s not a pure free market. If 30+ years of the same model hasn’t elevated the USMNT, why defend it

As always: I enjoy pro/rel. I’ve lived it. Nothing stopping a pro/rel alternative structure right now in US. I'll support it. But it’s not a panacea and it shouldn’t be mandated. Don’t tell others how to run their biz. Build a better mousetrap and let the customer/market decide.
Richard Nwanguma@R_Nwanguma93

@AlexiLalas Alright Cranbrook. This is what I'm yelling about. If not publicly subsidized youth soccer, where are you on pro/rel in America? You played in Serie A, you know shit hits different when the stakes get raised

@AlexiLalas @JtOswald When your first instinct is “how do coaches make more money?” instead of “how do we build the best player development system?”, you’re defending a business model, not U.S. Soccer. Great coaches deserve great paybut not through a system that prices out thousands of talented kids.

@JtOswald Great. But if you get paid more, or just want to get paid more, it doesn’t make you less of a coach or a villain.

Why shouldn’t a youth soccer coach want and deserve to make as much money as possible? If someone is really good at their job they should maximize their value.
Jim@JimJim50863703

@AlexiLalas Yes, the point of coaching youth soccer should not be for a coach to make as much money as possible. If you want to make money coaching soccer, coach at higher levels and not youths.

It wasn’t just Pulisic who had a poor game. There were 10 other players on the field, and plenty of decisions that contributed to the result. Venting is part of being a fan, but let’s show some perspective too. One player didn’t lose that match by himself. #Pulisic #USMNT

@AlexiLalas @franklinleonard @AlexiLalas do you think our system of 'pay to play' is bringing our best and brightest players? Are you happy with how we develop here in America? It's not the same system that you and LD, Tim Howard cam from. It's a business for those that can afford it.

@benwright Great read, and spot on. I’m still trying to pick myself up off the floor after that match. I hate the taste it left for the casual fans who had finally gotten invested. And I worry it may have hurt the game’s momentum in America

2026 was supposed to be the tipping point for soccer in the United States. Now, after a dismal and embarrassing loss to Belgium, we're left with more questions than answers. Again. Trying to make sense of the 2026 World Cup for the USMNT. sixonefivesoccer.com/here-we-are-ag…

@the_bonnfire @fulham_jim Hard to keep quiet when there’s a documentary about you playing out in real time and you’re the biggest global star on the US men’s team. He said what he said, owned it, and explained his reasons — the keyboard warriors just didn’t like it. Calling him “soft” is ridiculous.

@fulham_jim Exactly. If he takes the summer off, and it turns out he elevates his game as a result, everyone will be quiet! The decision will be justified! All this talk is just exacerbating the situation.

Watching this, one thought comes to mind over and over with every quote. Christian Pulisic isn't special. He's not the first football player to be heavily scrutinized. He's not the only one who had to weigh summer tournament vs. rest. He's not the only athlete to be criticized.

@ManagerTactical This is exhausting. The guy needed a break, and he took it. There are way bigger issues with the national team, but piling on Pulisic is absurd. You’re mad he didn’t play, which means you know we need him—yet now people want to burn his jersey and call him soft? #KeyboardWarriors

Every time Pulisic talks he makes it worse, the entitlement and whininess makes him very unlikable. I hope he turns this around, ultimately the 2026 World Cup with the USMNT 🇺🇸 will be his opportunity on the field, even so... the damage has been done off the field.

@usmntaut Couldn’t disagree more. These ex-players are now paid to have an opinion and are evaluated on ratings, clicks, and views. You think Christian’s teammates and coaches at AC Milan sit around texting about how soft he is? Lol. The guy has been grinding it out overseas for a decade.

If anyone wonders why I cover USYNT so much it’s because I’m tired of this “golden generation” and see a promising future in the next one. Will they be better, maybe or maybe not, but at least it’s something to be optimistic about. These current guys are so incredibly soft.

BJ Callaghan says Gastón Brugman and Julian Gaines are out for Saturday. Hany Mukhtar and Patrick Yazbek could play, but they’ll be evaluated more in the next 48 hours. They’re not able to train at their facility today - moving to an indoor field - and that could impact things.

Through 30 minutes against a Toronto side missing 6-7 starters, Nashville have 68% possession and zero shots. Painfully few ideas in the final third.
