‘ a charmer of the old school’ - Colin Bateman

Another year is destined to pass without Unionist leaders attending an Irish nationalist/republican commemoration & thereby beginning to reciprocate the important outreach gestures made by Nat/Rep. leaders re Remembrance over recent decades.

An event to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising has taken place in the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin this morning rte.ie/news/ireland/2…

@chrisadonnelly This is false equivalence, Chris. Remembrance Day honours sacrifices in multiple wars, including 200k Irishmen (Nationalists & Republicans among them) who served. The Easter Rising celebrates a separatist rebellion against British rule, Unionism has no reason to attend.

I mean, Cú Chullain was defending the Men Of Ulster from the invading Men Of Ireland! The Ulster Cycles has a kernel of truth - Ulster was separate from Ireland. Hence, it speaks of Men Of Ulster & Men Of Ireland. In battle, I might add. 🤔

Let’s do a thought experiment. There is a UI, Unionists stand for election to the Oireachtas, they win seats and refuse to take those seats denying representation to all of the constituency. Would those in the constituency & RoI accept this situation?
