Good to have the pack back on campus! Great day to celebrate a new school year, a new Chancellor as well as our new and returning students.

It’s been a heavy week. I just drove down 65th in north Seattle and there are hundreds of people lining the street with Black Lives Matter signs. I am moved and hopeful for change.

Two different protests downtown. One trying to be peaceful and the other with many folks causing problems.

Sitting at my computer tonight trying to draft a statement for campus about the unrelenting assault on black people in this country. I just can’t. I am too tired, angry and sad to be coherent about racism in America.

I lost a true friend and partner yesterday. No words can capture the grief. Dr. Gabe was the voice of reason during my tenure as VP. Always focused on student success. What a beautiful spirit. Rest in peace my friend.
