"There's only one majority in this country and that's the working class." 🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾 We completely agree with @NYCMayor. In fact, we just published the "Majority Agenda" outlining the policies that most Americans—across the political spectrum —agree with. We're not as divided as some media and politicians want us to believe. cepr.net/publications/t…

Zohran on CBS: " I think what we can see is that a democratic socialist politics is one that should be judged on its delivery, like any ideology ...  I think that this is a politics that can flourish anywhere because, frankly, there is only one majority in this country — that's the working class and it's time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what it is that we're pursuing and not as part of the appendix."

People need a living wage. We can afford to raise the minimum wage. Congress needs to raise the federal minimum wage.

"Winning" on affordability means raising wages, putting more money in everyday people's pockets, ending profit-driven healthcare, ending unjust wars, and ceasing policies that cater to the interests the ultra-rich.

While we can't magically bring down prices. There are legitimate policies that we could implement to rein in the affordability crisis. @Algernon_austin says: 👉🏽 Raise the minimum wage 👉🏽Make it easier for workers to join unions 👉🏽 Keep labor markets tight so wages stay up Instead, Trump's tax bill gives 70%+ of cuts to the wealthiest 20%. This is the opposite of affordability.

@algernon_austin This is why people can't afford things in America. When most households are getting a shrinking slice of the pie, economic anxiety is no longer a feeling; it's people's reality. Affordability isn't just about prices. It's about how much and who is getting paid.

@algernon_austin The income share going to the top 5% GREW by 40% since 1974. The lowest-income households? Their share DROPPED by nearly 28%. Every group below the top lost ground.

@algernon_austin In 1974, middle-income households took home 17% of all US income. By 2024? Just 13.9%. Meanwhile, the top 20% went from 43.5% to over 52%, now capturing the MAJORITY of all income in America. Every other group lost ground.

🧵NEW DATA:  The bottom 80% of American households are getting poorer. It's not just people in poverty falling behind. @Algernon_austin digs into 50 years of data explaining why so many families feel squeezed. cepr.net/publications/r…

Card check requires 51% of workers to sign on. The secret ballot means every worker votes. Both are democratic. @lnburnam decodes how @WSJ op-eds twist labor law to disempower workers. cepr.net/publications/w…

.@RepMcGovern's right. Even BEFORE Trump started the war with Iran, 68% of Americans said Trump had his priorities wrong. Now what's become crystal clear? Affordable health care, college, housing, and food weren't ever going to become priorities.

We applaud @RepRashida for prioritizing her constituents' needs. This is exactly why we also need a strong, stable National Flood Insurance Program. With a Republican-controlled Congress focused on cutting services rather than fixing them, millions of homeowners face mounting health risks and compounding bills. Investing in FEMA and shoring up the NFIP is essential especially as climate disasters keep getting worse. @MattSedlar cepr.net/publications/t…

Two years after severe flooding in Southeast Michigan, families are facing toxic mold in their homes. My Fix Our Flooded Basements Act will require FEMA to cover basement flood damage and mold and mildew remediation.

The absurd part of this story is Biden picked this jerk. He could have put someone with a brain in charge of NATO, instead he picked Rutte. If anyone lives to write the history, Biden's foreign policy will go down as the biggest disaster since Vietnam.
Thorsten Benner@thorstenbenner

"The president doing this is crucial. I've seen the polling, but I really hope American people will be with him because he's doing this to make the whole world safer". How judicious on the part of Rutte to cheer a war pushing world toward economic crisis.

It’s unclear when the AI bubble will burst, and history suggests there won’t be an obvious trigger. But Nvidia’s $4.8T valuation would require it to capture an unrealistic share of US corporate profits within a decade. More from @deanbaker13 cepr.net/publications/w…

Today, anyone earning $1M/year stops paying into #SocialSecurity — for the rest of 2026. That's 300 days of a tax break the rest of us don't get. There's no good reason the ultra-wealthy shouldn't pay their fair share all year. #SCRAPTHECAP New from @hayleycbbrown: cepr.net/publications/t…

Social Security isn't a personal savings account. You don't get back exactly what you put in. It's social insurance—a shared pool that protects workers from old age, disability, and the loss of a breadwinner. That distinction matters a lot. Because it's social insurance, the benefit formula is intentionally progressive. Lower-income workers get more back relative to what they paid in by design. It's what makes Social Security one of our best anti-poverty tools. So when millionaires start hitting their Social Security cap today, while the rest of us pay all year, that's not just unfair—it undermines what the program is built on: collective care. This is why we need to #ScrapTheCap. bit.ly/4rjgSkO
