Arizona has been fortunate to have Jami’s capable and professional leadership at the helm of an agency that impacts the wellbeing of so many residents- and during such a critical time. Wishing her the very best.

States were not intended to be federal outposts, subdivisions or financing arms of the federal government. America needs not just a financial turnaround plan but a government rightsizing plan - to prevent this fiscal calamity from bringing about a constitutional one. /end

What will it mean to be a state when state duties and responsibilities are driven by federal programs and purse strings? When a majority of decisions about state services are made by Congress and federal officials? When states must generate more revenue to finance them? 8/

Beyond the points made by the authors about the disincentives to work and impacts on the economy (and democracy) created by current fiscal policy, it's time to consider the size and influence of the related federal spending on state budgets. 1/

Congratulations to @azkarla on her appointment to the State Board of Education! As one of our state’s most thoughtful and collaborative leaders, there is no one more committed than Karla to creating good policy and seeking opportunities for all kids to succeed. Terrific choice!

Mr. McLendon was public service personified. Smart on the issues, asked the tough questions, worked hard to get to “yes”- always with a smile. Gonna miss that warm “sense of Yuma” but his leadership, stewardship and example live on in all he did and was. Blessings to his family.

Longtime House Minority Leader Bob McLendon, from Yuma, just died, Rep. Fernandez announced on the House floor. He was also a former county supervisor, high school government teacher and basketball coach. #AZLeg

Oh, this is sad news. Time and again, Mr. Bradley made quietly courageous decisions, putting Arizonans first in all he did - and always carried forth with a warm smile. Our state is blessed by his strong and compassionate service. Deepest condolences to his family.
Mary Jo Pitzl@maryjpitzl

Former Senate minority leader and longtime lawmaker David Bradley passed this morning in California. His wife, Debbie, and daughter Brooke were by his side. Bradley served as minority leader in 2019-20.
