This is shrewd messaging from Sharaa, playing off anxieties over Iran & Hormuz. However, expect any investments from the Gulf Arabs to create a pipeline to Syria's Mediterranean coast to be viewed as a direct threat to Israel who will do everything in their power to see it fail.
Clash Report@clashreport

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Iran War: Any disturbance in the Red Sea or in the Strait of Hormuz, Syria constitutes a safe haven for the safety of supply chains through its strategic location. European countries will suffer from the interruption of energy supplies from the Arab Gulf.

I want our people in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq to understand this clearly: when resistance leaders praise or show solidarity with Iran, Hezb, Houthis, and others, it is for one reason only: resisting Israel. It doesn’t mean Palestinians support any ظلم committed against you.

I didn't ask you to support anyone. Nor do I have an issue with you opposing "BOTH" parties. I have an issue with people like you claiming Harris would be "worse" & more "dangerous" than Trump, which was an absurd thing to say at the time, & today is even more absurd of course.
Peter Daou@peterdaou

It's really something Mehdi, how you expected me to support Biden and Harris when they were sending bombs to slaughter children. You know I oppose BOTH ruling parties, so your attacks against me are disingenuous clickbait at best.

The "local voices" thing is just part of a global reactionary-populist trend to dethrone credentialed expertise and objective analysis in favor of views that are idiotic and suicidal (see MAGA or Iranian monarchists). People who have devoted their lives to systematic comparative study absolutely *do know better* about economics, international relations, military strategy, etc. than the average embedded ideological subject. Some of you handle the standpoint epistemology stuff with kid gloves when you should be unsparingly vanguardist.

@chariotracer_a @MouinRabbani So why is everything i hear from Muslims about dogs negative? Even Mouin's tweet really doesn't paint a glowing picture. Apparently, it's divided at best. Well, that's still not meshing with the west where they are universally beloved.

Fact-free far-right bigot once again claims unparalleled expertise in Islamic jurisprudence because he lived in Lebanon until age 10. In this case, he repeats the demonstrable falsehood that "dogs are haram in Islam". Dogs are mentioned several times in the Quran. One passage relates a parable in which a dog serves as the faithful guardian of a group of believers who hid in a cave to escape persecution. The other specifies that it is permissible to eat animals that have been hunted by dogs and falcons (and thus retrieved in their mouths). There is no Quranic passage that describes dogs as "haram" or forbids keeping them. Islamic clerics have issued multiple views on dogs. Based on the above Quranic references, they are agreed that it is permissible to keep dogs that serve a purpose – such as hunting, herding, and guarding. There is also consensus that dog saliva is impure (“najis”), requiring the special cleaning of utensils that come into contact with it. The clerics are however divided on whether it is also permissible to keep dogs within the confines of the home. Three of the four schools of Islamic jurisprudence consider dogs impure (najis), a concept that is quite different than haram, which entails categorical prohibition. None consider dogs haram. Najis primarily means that if one comes into contact with a dog, ritual purification is required prior to the performance of religious duties such as prayer. Ablutions, for example, are considered invalidated by physical contact with a dog. But the physical contact itself is not forbidden. Basing themselves on different sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, as well as other forms of reasoning, Islamic clerics have generally forbidden keeping dogs as companions, and offered various reasons for doing so. Others only discourage it, and others still permit it. In other words, there is no doctrinal position on the issue across the faith, as there is for example with respect to the consumption of pork or carrion. To claim that "dogs are haram in Islam", or that "Islam hates dogs", is at best a profession of ignorance, and in this case also clearly an exercise in fact-free bigotry for the sole purpose of promoting bigotry. In the example below, fact-free far-right bigot Gad Saad believes he has definitively demonstrated that "dogs are haram in Islam" by reposting a fellow fact-free far-right bigot's account of a single incident. Rather than presenting a legal opinion by a Muslim cleric or conclusions of a study by scholar of Islamic jurisprudence, the incident concerns a statement by a grocery shopper in France. As with so much posted by this pair, it is unclear if the incident is genuine or distorted to amplify the bigotry. If it is real, it changes nothing about Islamic jurisprudence with respect to dogs, no more than it would if a Muslim kept a dozen dogs as indoor pets after receiving a fatwa expressly prohibiting it. Saad’s post is however not without value. It provides - yet again - a valuable insight into his fact-free approach to substantiating his bigotry, as well as into his standards of – for lack of a better term – scholarship.

This person is talking about Syrians being “shipped back” as if they were animals. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians who came to Germany as refugees now hold German citizenship, and a majority of Syrians there are employed. So Mohammad doesn’t get to decide their political preferences regarding Syrian matters, even if they seem to bother him deeply.
Mohammad Ali Shabani@mashabani

This kind of footage is a joy for the German government. If Syrians in Germany are so happy about Sharaa's rule, the argument will likely go, surely they can be shipped back to where they came from.
