This account uses official results to determine whether a "call was wrong". That means George W. Bush is recognized as having been elected in 2000, whatever my personal view about the legitimacy of that may be.

Strom Thurmond (R-SC) was re-elected in 1990. His ignoble record includes being a segregationist third party candidate in 1948, filibustering the Civil Rights act of 1957 for 24 hours, and fathering a Black child with his family's 16 year old maid and never acknowledging it.

John Warner (R) was re-elected to the U.S. Senate from Virginia in 1990 unopposed. He remains the last Republican elected to the Senate from Virginia.

Should read *unopposed by a major party nominee*. Some LaRouchie was on the ballot and got 18%.

Sam Nunn (D-GA) was re-elected unopposed in 1990. His daughter Michelle failed to be elected Senator from Georgia in 2014.

Carroll Campbell (R) was the first Republican to be re-elected Governor of South Carolina.

Longtime lieutenant governor Zell Miller was elected Governor of Georgia in 1990. By 2004 he was a U.S. Senator and crossed party lines to endorse George W. Bush, giving a strident keynote speech at the RNC that year.

I always thought this clip of BBC's coverage of the 1988 Glasgow Govan by-election (which the SNP won from Labour off an big swing) was amusing because it had the SNP winner Jim Sillars (with microphone) next to one of The Proclaimers (the people who wrote that "500 Miles" song).

A directional university (also called a "directional school") is an informal term, mostly used in U.S. higher education discussions, for a public state-supported university whose official name includes a compass direction—such as North, South, East, West, or sometimes Central or Middle—followed by the state name or similar.

In Spring of 2016, the on campus enrollment at Eastern Illinois University was 6,991. In Spring of 2026, it was 3,660. That's a decline of 48% in just ten years. This is happening right now to dozens of directional universities throughout the Midwest.

In 1990, a lot of the "this is CNN" bumpers acknowledged that the network had been on for 10 years. This was shown before the start of their 1990 election night coverage.

(UK) Labour and Harold Wilson were favored to be re-elected in 1970. The BBC did not foresee the large Tory swing that would bring Ted Heath into 10 Downing Street, to the point that the meter of "swing" from Labour to Tories had to be *manually extended live on air*.
