Here is the @CARESRegistry data from 2023.
It shows that 7.4% of the 141,746 OHCA patients had a CPC 1-2 outcome (neuro-intact).
But we can -- and must -- do better.
There are agencies in the U.S. with 14% neuro-intact survival. Extrapolating that out would yield almost 10,000 more lives saved if those outcomes weren't just reserved for the top performing 0.1%.
How do we get there?
1. Know your agency's neuro-intact survival (this is found in the CARES summary report at mycares.net.
2. Implement T-CPR at dispatch.
3. Train PD on HP-CPR.
4. Implement EMS HP-CPR on all patients (kids too).
5. Institute robust CQI that includes a deep data dive on every cardiac arrest. Send this feedback to the crews.
6. Have reunions with every survivor.
7. Recognize your personnel for EVERY save.
8. Repeat steps 1-7 every year.
