On this day, 4 April 1931 Mayor of Limerick Paul A. O’Brien passed away at his residence on Newenham Street, Limerick. He served two consecutive terms as mayor from June 1925 to June 1927, and was the first of four mayors of Limerick who belonged to the Progressive Party.

Former Sinn Féin TD and academic Kathleen O'Callaghan passed away in St. John’s Hospital on this day 1961. She was an advocate for women's rights and a senior lecturer at Mary Immaculate College. She had married Mayor Michael O'Callaghan, who was murdered in her presence in 1921.
