The Consulate General of Israel in Toronto and Western Canada is appalled by the two antisemitic pellet gun attacks targeting visibly Jewish residents in North York on the night of May 7. One shooting took place near the Pride of Israel synagogue, another occurred near the Chasdei Bobov synagogue. Individuals were targeted outside these Toronto synagogues for one reason alone: they visibly belonged to the Jewish community. This is another link in a growing chain of antisemitic violence, intimidation, and incitement targeting the Jewish community in Canada since October 7. When Jews are repeatedly attacked in the same neighborhoods, on the same streets, by perpetrators who appear increasingly emboldened, a dangerous reality begins to take shape: an open season on Jews in Canada. We commend the Toronto Police Service for treating these incidents with the seriousness they deserve and for investigating them as suspected hate crimes. Canadian authorities must respond with urgency, determination, and zero tolerance toward the escalating antisemitic violence unfolding across the country.

After attacks on synagogues, Jewish institutions, community ambulances and now Jews targeted in Golders Green, the UK government can no longer claim this is under control. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statements are no substitute for confronting the roots of antisemitism festering across United Kingdom. British Jews should not need security patrols and emergency volunteers to live openly as Jews. Enough words. The UK must act decisively and urgently.

The Consulate General of Israel in Toronto and Western Canada condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the two antisemitic attacks that took place in the GTA this weekend. On Saturday, a Jewish man was assaulted outside the Synagogue at the Sephardic Kehila Centre while accompanied by his child. On Sunday, a Jewish-owned store was targeted for the third time, with a rock thrown through its window. These are not isolated incidents. They are expressions of rising antisemitism, manifesting in repeated, targeted violence against the Jewish community. These events are the direct product of a climate in which antisemitism has been tolerated and permitted to take root and proliferate. What is required now is consistent action and clear consequences that restore deterrence and ensure the safety of Jewish Canadians.

Israel views very gravely these blatant antisemitic blood libels from a government claiming to “mediate peace”. Calling the Jewish state “cancerous” is effectively calling for its annihilation. Israel will defend itself against terrorists who vow its destruction.

Dear High Rep., these are the facts: Since Hezbollah began its attacks unprovoked on March 2nd, it has indiscriminately fired roughly 6,500 missiles, rockets and drones at Israeli communities and citizens. The IDF action yesterday in Lebanon was a precise strike, based on intelligence, aimed at dozens of terror targets: Hezbollah command centers manned by terrorists, weapons depots and launch sites. The vast majority of the casualties were Hezbollah terrorists. No other military in the world is able to strike so precisely with minimal civilian casualties. Dear High Rep., this action was far more precise than in any other war you’re familiar with. Your call to extend the ceasefire to Lebanon is exactly the Iranian terror regime’s position. It makes Lebanon not just de-facto under Iranian occupation. It makes Lebanon de-jure Iranian territory. The US already made it clear that Lebanon is not part of the deal. You claimed that Hezbollah “agreed to disarm”. When did that happen??? The opposite is true. Time and again Hezbollah declared they won’t. You claim the EU “supports Lebanon’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah”. Unfortunately, despite its commitment to do so in the November 2024 ceasefire - the Lebanese government hadn’t done that, as we can all clearly see today. Ridiculously enough, Hezbollah ministers still serve in the Lebanese government!

I commend the Council of the European Union’s decision to formally designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. The IRGC is the backbone of Iran’s global terror network and a primary source of instability. It has ruthlessly suppressed its own people - killing thousands during recent protests - and continues to spread violence throughout the Middle East. This decision also carries profound moral weight; it tells the Iranian people that they do not stand alone in their fight for freedom and dignity.
