MLB proposed discipline for players who are selected to their country’s Olympic team but decline to participate without an exemption, including fines and being placed on MLB’s restricted list for as many as 2-3 weeks. Proposal also stipulates that clubs, owners, agents and executives may not discourage players from participating, per @susanslusser.

It looks like the reports about him trying to make his departure conditional on him getting to choose his successor are true. Utterly embarrassing behavior on his part that could turn this into an even bigger disaster for his supposed movement.

@AlexiLalas Lots of cities (and small towns) have public-subsidized rec leagues and the red tide of socialism remains at bay. This is not the own you think it is, fields are not free but they are cheaper than you’d think.

So you think the American taxpayer should fund youth soccer? You should definitely run for office on that. What about piano lessons, SAT prep, dance, math tutoring, horse riding, fencing etc? Should taxpayer fund those? Also, our goverment financially supports many sports.

I understand that this is tough to swallow if you’re a hardcore soccer fan who has followed USMNT for years and years through the loss to Trinidad and Tobago or whatever but it’s just been trashed. You can play act as Clay Travis to ignore it but in your heart you know it’s true.

There’s nothing existential about anything now. The reputation of this team and program is unfixably fucked. If we win we look dirty, if we lose we look pathetic. That’s the problem with getting special treatment from political pressure. The only answer is sitting Balogun.

This makes a mockery of the whole tournament.
If the USMNT win, Belgium will have every right to feel cheated, meanwhile the USA’s victory - by their best ever generation of players - will forever be tainted by accusations of favouritism and corruption.
It’s bad for everyone.

@SportsGuyJeremy Agree with one statements of this 3 part thread. "Roster rules disproportionately favor attacking players" yup. Small salary cap wont let u spend on spots 1-18. The reality is that mls is nowhere near the quality of top leagues. Speed, atmosphere, quality. Its cap issues

@dilanesper Why do they suck? It would help us here, and I’m not sure I agree with you that process and lawyers are inherently bad (then again I’m a defense attorney so I struggle with red cards and ejections generally). Due process is a good thing when there are stakes!

So under this standard if a pitcher throws a 100 mph fastball at a batter's head but the batter survives the impact and remains in the game, the pitcher shouldn't get ejected or suspended.

@Missy_dee811 tbh when I saw it I did think it was probably a red, kind of a borderline call that could have gone either way. but ideally the team is set up to be successful and not dependent on one man anyway cause anything can happen, he could get injured himself.
