How’s that song go… “Reunited and it feels so good.” Thought we’d share a feel-good story to wrap up the week. A Silver Alert was issued on January 20th by CHP for a 78-year-old at-risk missing person from the Bay Area with known physical and mental health concerns. Seven days later, we were advised that the missing person’s vehicle had been detected by one of our automatic license plate readers on the east side of town. Two of our Community Service Officers (CSOs) assigned to the Missing Persons Unit immediately began searching the area but were unable to locate the missing person that day. Determined to keep looking, the CSOs returned the following morning and located the missing person in a business parking lot. They learned the missing person was lost and had unsuccessfully attempted to get back onto the freeway to return home. The missing person’s family was contacted and reunited with their loved one. Persistence, teamwork, and dedication made all the difference in bringing her home safely.

You may have noticed some police activity in the 9000 block of Almondwillow Way last night.   Shortly after 7 o’clock Sunday evening, officers responded to a report of a 17-year-old trying to attack his family with a knife. When officers arrived, the teen barricaded himself inside the family home and refused to come out.   Our Crisis Response Unit, consisting of SWAT and Crisis Negotiators, were called in.   After several hours, officers safely detained the teen without injury to officers, the teen, or family members.   The scene was cleared; everyone involved is safe. The 17-year-old was taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Hall charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since we think of you every single day, Ty. On the morning of January 21, 2022, Officer Tyler “Ty” Lenehan was on duty riding his police motorcycle on southbound Highway 99, in Sacramento. An intoxicated driver, with a DUI record, was traveling in the wrong direction, on a divided section of the highway and struck Ty head on. The driver was taken into custody. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders at the scene and staff at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, Ty succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Ty is survived by his wife, 2 children, parents, and siblings. Before becoming a Police Officer, Ty served in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Journeyman and worked side-by-side with his father as an electrician. He began working towards a career in law enforcement in 2012 attending the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center (SRPSTC), American River College (ARC) Academy. That same year, Ty became a Reserve Police Officer with the Citrus Heights Police Department. In 2014, he was hired as a Police Officer by the Galt Police Department and transitioned into becoming a Motor Officer. Ty joined the Elk Grove Police Department in 2016 and again followed his passion to be a Motor Officer. Ty will forever be missed but never forgotten.
