Cheap buses are great. They make life much more affordable. And they *also* get growth rising. It’s cheaper to commute, meaning more job opportunities for you and more workers for businesses to hire. Easier to meet mates and share ideas too. Higher wages for you. Higher productivity for us all.
Everyone's circumstances are different, but this will save me and my family about £200 a year. Alongside removing the VAT on electricity that's £240 a year, so £20 a month. That might not be groundbreaking but it's genuinely helpful. I'm also pleased to see a PM jumping straight in, starting to target the cost of living. No dithering, just going for it. Some quick wins already - can't complain

I keep reading that wealth taxes and rent controls would be disastrous for the British economy, which can only be boosted by slashing disability benefits and scrapping the triple lock. I suspect these claims might have more to do with ideology than objective economic analysis.

A recent study suggests that by imposing a minimum 2% charge on households with more than £100m in wealth; £10bn could be raised annually to HMRC. To stop the wealthy from jumping ship, they’d force the rich to pay the tax for at least 10 years after they quit the UK. They estimated this would affect only 1,000 households and would therefore be easier to implement. I said I would give people a bit more breathing space. Today I’m taking immediate action - cutting taxes on energy bills to put more money in your pocket.
Families are struggling with their energy bills and this VAT cut to electricity will give some breathing space this winter. My focus now is working to bring bills down for good.
