Question: Why are we (myself included) so drawn to fictional characters who are psychopaths? Why do we 'like' or even root for characters who are cruel, manipulative and incapable of empathy?

So dear tweeters… There’s only ever been one classic Dr Who I truly truly despise. I genuinely think it’s the worst Who ever to be shown, I’ve only ever watched it once all the way through as multiple times I’ve not been able to sit through it.. Tonight I’m giving it a go…

@scribblesscript It blew my mind when I realised how bad this story is in this regard, I'd just accepted how I enjoyed the setting as a kid and not thought about the lens of it,how incredibly racist/colonialist it is. A younger fan (by about ten years) called me out on it and I'm glad he did tbh.

And if you think one yellowface casting decision is the only racist element of this story you have not been paying attention

@mellis107 I think you'd be forgiven for cherry picking tbh from what I hear about it - lots of good TV out there to watch :) Although having said that I'm also feeling the need haha

I don’t know what it is, but S1 of The X Files has a vibe that subsequent seasons never managed to recapture.

@mellis107 I didn't make it that far beyond the odd couple of comedy episodes I had picked out by a mate! Need to dig out my 90s episode guide haha
